I agree, good music is good music, in any genre. One of the best shows I was ever at was in 1993 at Roseland. The bill was Cypress Hill, House of Pain, and Funkdoobiest(Remember Him?)

I'll listen to any song thats good, regardless of genre, but I mostly listen to hip-hop. Not really a fan of commercial stuff at all (e.g. Jay-Z, snoop, Puffy, etc.). A few of my favs are - Keith Murray, 2pac & Outlawz, and Phife (solo, not w/ the rest of ATCQ).

I also like hiphop, but no one on this board ever talks about it. Eveyrone only talks about hardcore music to the best of my knowledge. Im not slammin' it so no one flip out on me, Im just sayin sometimes you need something you can shake your ass to.

Sorry French Bread. As A HipHop purist,I personaly wouldnt consider ICP as hiphop either. I sorta just implied it in my last post to highlight it.Actually They could be considered to be part of a sub-genre to hiphop though as they rap & use some breakbeats with there metal core, even though they suck. Anyway rock on!
Cheebahawk
11-27-2001, 10:35 AM
Even though i havnt really listened to them (ICP) i guess they could be considered precursors to bands such as Limp & others of that ilk, who are considered to have elements of hiphop in there music. thats why there refered to as "rockhop" or other labels that people have given that brand of music.

Well sure, i must admit Hova did kill Nas on that takeover ish. But from what I hear the Nas comeback to that is off the meter! cannt wait to hear it. Also Mobbdeep's trying to comeback to Jay also, lets see how that goes.
On a side note & dont get me wrong i love the westsiidde! but is it just me or are the WestCoasters falling off? I mean for the past couple of months the stuff their dropping is mad commercial (Dre,Snoop, even Kurupt), seems like their just trying to cash a check, cannt be mad at them for that but the material isnt as hot as it used to be.

i love all hiphop..but there's just something about east coast beats that i can catch the beat to better. i was in cali for 3 months this past summer and got used to the west side beats, but nothing beats the east coast flava...and i know i'm weird but i'm actually starting to get into this southern flava..it gets my head bobbing

Afu-ra is nice, there are more mc's out there like him but they dont get radio play, ie. underground artists. The Roots & Dead Prez are hot too. Eastcoast beats are grimier that highlight the MC more > or least they used to be, these days most E.Coast producers are just emulating the west & southern sound. The South has been hot for a while. you guys should check out the new three six mafia that joint is hot.

Not to into the hip-hop scene although i enjoy it when i find something special.
Other then that my tastes run the gamet. I started going to undergrounds in LA in 1990 (the youngsters call them raves now) so my passion for techno, tribal, deep house, and jungle span a decade. on the other hand i love going to the bluegrass jam at the baggot inn in the village on monday and wednesdays. i enjoy pretty much everything inbetween.

I listen to hip-hop all the time. It's no the same though without Pac and Biggie. There aren't a lot of cats bringing it raw these days. It's all about getting on TRL now. And for those who didn't know, 2Pac was the G.O.A.T.

I'm mostly a hard rock/metal fan, but I like a bunch of hip hop and other music as well...Faves are Beasties, Tribe, De La Soul, early Pharcyde, Jurassic 5, RUN-DMC, early NWA <as well as the early Cube stuff and the first Chronic album> and of course, Public Enemy...
I wanted to defend ICP's hip-hop status tho...they were hip-hop when Eminem was still Marshall Mathers and came out of a rich underground scene in Detroit...their first 3 albums are much more hip-hop than anything else, and on Riddlebox, they use some of the most unreal beats I've ever heard...it wasn't until then that the guitars really started showing up on their albums...I feel ICP are victims of the rap-metal crossover bullshit, where they sorta always did all-in-one, but now, since they are a little <or a lot> less commercially viable than, say, Limp Bizkit <who I detest>, they get a bum rap...I'm proud to say I am a juggalo...
Honestly, if you want to hear more straight up rapping talent, look towards their partners in crime, Twiztid...they have blown me away on their albums, with incredible lyrical skill and imagery...they're definitely better writers than ICP, and more interesting than the DMX/Jay Z/Dre shit that gets airplay...
Just some thoughts :)
It's not funny, my ass is on fire...
