Dating someone from another country

Hey everyone,
Would you ever consider dating someone from another country? Yeah I know the whole thing about how long distance relationships dont work yadda yadda yadda. But there is a girl in another office of mine located in Russia that my coworkers have been pushing for me to get together with-(for serious relationship).
I've been instant messaging with her recently- we share some nice chat- she's really pretty- and I am considering asking if i can go to Russia to see her.
Do you think something like this could work? obviously eventually if it got serious one of us would have to relocate but- would you consider doing this- or is it not worth the effort in your eyes?

That's pretty damn far. You might want to take a different approach. If you have the money and time for a trip to Russia, then look at it as a nice vacation with someone to show you around. If you really hit it off while you're there, then you can figure out what to do next. If it doesn't seam like it will be a true love connection, then you had a nice time with a hot Russian girl, on a really cool vacation.

You don't know shit about a person until you've spent enough time with them that they start to be themselves. That's really hard to do from different hemispheres over the internet, or on a vacation. It's a sort of the first rule of dating on the road: think fling - not serious. Also, tons of Russian girls want out of Russia they're one of the biggest suppliers of hookers in the world. Ask AJ how many are in Qutar banging Arabs for money just so they don't have to be at home. Hell! They're even in Yemen and no chick wants to sleep with a Yemeni!

That said, desperation sometimes makes for a strong enough relationship. Sometimes it makes people really cool, if they can escape it on their own anyway, (see my praise for Eastern European chicks who've escaped in my Yerdaddy of Arabia thread.) But I'd have my guard up for years and years wondering if the chick's going to bail or turn into a rotten henpecking shrew once she doesn't need me for a green card.

Overall I think it's pretty unrealistic that this kind of long-distance thing can work. Try it as a travel adventure and go visit her, but if you're thinking of a serious relationship already then the odds aren't in your favor.

Ron talked about this the other day. If they are living in shit conditions, or just can't what they want, then of course they'll want to come here. If she has a good job, then it's probably a good place to be.

There's a guy who works with me on and off. He's from Bulgaria. He came here to make cash and get citizenship. When he's here, he drives a piece of shit car and delivers pizzas for 10 hours a day. When he goes back to Bulgaria, he lives like a king in a beautiful country. Seriously. I've seen pics of this guy's house. It's incredible!

I use to work with this African lady. I think she was from Ghana. Upon returning from a visit to her family in Ghana she brought pictures in. I was shocked to see her family living in a HUGE house. Granted she had like 11 siblings and extended family living in the house but by golly the house was so HUGE it shouldn't be called a house. Now when I think about it, I shouldn't have been so surprised as she loooooved to spend her money (and her husbands money too!!!)
