I've heard of this before, but never saw it in action. Pretty interesting stuff.

I don't think this can be labeled alternative fuel though. It uses electricity to generate the hydrogen gas. So technically the fuel is still electricity, nothing new, and electricity is typically generated by coal (In the USA at least) which is worse on the environment a car running on standard gasoline. The gas burns with 15% more efficiency than gasoline so that would be the main benefit.

Here is an article (http://www.tfot.info/news/1011/water-powered-car-demonstrated.html) on it. Basically the same stuff as the video

The thing I think about is how will the electric be made that this thing needs? How does the car make the necessary electric? Is the alternator enough?

One weird thing is that I work in an energy company (natural gas/electric utility) and this video has been going all around the company. Management is kind of nervous. I am too, if this turns out to be real and practical.
The thing I wonder about is Hydrogen. Remember the Hindenburg? That was filled with hydrogen. Obviously we have a way of obtaining hydrogen.. I am not sure how it is obtained.

Why the hell was this in Sleeve's Forum?

Oh well. It's fixed.

.

Do you know how many people would be affected if cheap, reliable energy was available to everyone? Although it would be better for humanity and the planet in the long run, it would be extremely disruptive and non-profitable for a lot of rich people. I think it would take some kind of revolution in order for it to be available to everyone.

it would breed a whole new crop of rich people. and the current rich people who are smart would quickly adapt while the stubborn ones would go the way of all other big companies who have failed.

hydrogen combined with nuclear power is really the only way to have clean efficient fuel. as long as no batteries are involved, it is a great way to make cheap and easy power.

cars would have to be redesigned and re engineered to accept this new type of fuel and power. it is not as simple as switching a motor, it is more like a whole new power train

you have 20+ years before this is main stream, if it EVER happens.

there is SO much research being done at universities and corporations, and in the past many things like this have surfaced and gone no where.

look how slow E85 is rolling out, and that is being backed by the #1 car maker in the country as well as the government and the infrastructure is basically there already.

that's what the gasoline is for

Remember the Hindenburg?

Don't worry about the Hindenburg. The fire you saw in the movie wasn't the hydrogen burning. The hydrogen burned in less then 2 seconds. The horrifying fire was because of the paint on the outer skin.

Don't get me wrong, hydrogen can kill you if enough of it explodes in a confined area. But most of the time, since hydrogen burns so quickly, it never reaches the point where destructive detonation occurs. The molecules dissapate their energy so quickly they hardly get a chance to do it en masse for the big boom like gasoline fumes can.

wow. interesting stuff.

but i just heard on Coast to Coast that a water shortage is expected, i think they said in 50 years, due to the polar ice caps evaporating, and global warming, etc...

i wish i had seen this contraption sooner. i wouldve paid closer attention.

we can never have a water shortage, we just have a shortage of cheap easy drinkable water. the whole planet is water, and there are plenty of methods to turn ocean water into drinking water. In Aruba, all of the islands water comes from desalinization plans. it costs more than just drilling into the ground and getting it, but it can and eventually will be done. especially as nuclear power becomes more prevelant around the world.

thats what i thought, but this scientist was pretty convincing. but i listen to the show to fall asleep, so maybe i missed something.

but never say never. im sure when cars were new, people thought there would be an unlimited supply of fossil fuels.

im out of my element here, but just saying what ive heard.

out of my element....get it?

we can always create water from scratch, unlike fossil fuels or gold. we have the ability to pull oxygen and hydrogen from the air, or even really filthy water, and then recombine it into water.

water is the 1 thing i would say in terms of drinking we will ways be able to get it from somewhere.

now polluted rivers and oceans are a problem in the sense that everything living in them is affected.

He said that he was looking to build a hybrid gas/water hybrid for the military. Do you really want a vehicle that runs on water in the desert?
