I thought the best part of today's show was when you called in to defend Dave. It's about time Earl was called out for not getting Ronnie Woood in the studio before the date that he set for himself. I don't want to hear any excuses about changes that "they" made. You made a bet to get him in before a cerain date and you didn't do it end of story.

Huzzah!

I also thought Mikeyboy's call was spot-on.

I don't expect to like everything on the show, but i had to switch away repeatedly from R+F+E today. (why not more Peppers1+2, Lil etc instead of dullard mumblemouth?).

And yeah, even with his excessive sillyness at times, Dave usually tries to do his best for the show and listeners.

I have a new-found respect for Mikeyboy after today's dressing down of Black Earl.

Way to go Mr. Administrator.

I owe you a beer at Bar 9.

Good work Mikeyboy - and HTG for that matter.

Earl said (paraphrased) "I will have Ron wood in studio by the end of spring or I will quit the show." He didn't say "If Ron Wood is available I will get him here" or "If the Stone's schedule doesn't change he will be here," he said if it doesn't happen I will leave.

It didn't happen, but he didn't leave. Sounds like not paying off a bet to me. Earl doesn't have any right to talk about Dave or call for his ouster.

Yeah so true. Earl never catches any shit on the show. I fully agree that Dave is way better than Earl on air, but Dave brings all of this shit on himself. Excuse my language, but Dave may have gotten a little too big for his britches yesterday. Dave, Casey and HTG may be the popular kids on the internet but Ron is in charge and he should not be guilted into letting anyone out of a bet that they willingly made.

I don't think anybody that posted or called was doubting Ron or his power, and Dave DID bring all of this on himself.

However, Earl has absolutely no room to talk - he refuses to pay off a bet he obviously lost but condemns Dave for that very thing. That is the issue at hand, not whether or not Dave is right or wrong.

Says the ENABLER! yeah, agreed that Dave should pay off his bet. I honestly think he will make up for it. I feel terrible about it... I CAN say he will never make a bet like that again cause we BOTH can't handle the punishment of two weeks alone.

Thanks Mikey for pointing out the Earl flaw.

yeah, way to go Mikey!

No one remembered this bet (http://www.ronfez.net/forums/showthread.php?t=60622)

It's about time someone had the balls to bring it up!

In Earl's defence he did step down as producer to go back to school. Of course he never actually left...

I applaud Mikey in coming to Earls defense.

Then I loved when he dropped the N-bomb that only Ron heard.

If I can remember what Ron said coming out of break yesterday.
"We were trying to do a bit here and it got a little too real."

Mikeyboy called Earl on his bet and that was right. Way to go Mikeyboy

It seems to me that it's Daves time to be in the barrel.
I disagree with Enabler though that Earl never catches shit on the show. He seems to take ALOT of shit most or all of it earned. He had his day in the sun today.Tuesday will be something new.

What does that phrase mean? someone said it to me a while ago and I didn't catch the meaning.

I understood it to mean in the crosshairs of a gun. In other words you are taking the abuse right now.

That would make sense. Cause I was coming back to work my rotation and the other safety guy emailed me saying "Haha, welcome back, now it's your time in the barrel"... as he was heading for his time off.

Perfect, thanks!

Great call-in. He stated everything I've been thinking ever since the situation came up.

Earl's defense made no sense. As it was stated earlier, he promised Ron Wood by a certain date. Even though it's true the tour was rescheduled, they're still doing press and if he had the connections he claimed, Woody could have still called in.

I have actually heard a completely different explanation, which is as follows:

A phrase taken from a popular joke. To say someone is "in the barrel" or "taking a turn in the barrel" means it's their turn to do an unpleasant task or to suffer an unpleasant experience. The joke is as follows:

A sailor on a Navy ship had been out to sea for weeks, and was beginning to go through sex withdrawals. Fed up with the lack of sex, he asked one of his shipmates what he did when the pressure was too much to take.

"Well, there's a barrel with a hole in it near the mop storage. When it gets to be too much for us, we use that."

So the sailor went over to the barrel and decided to give it a go. Finding it was better than he'd expected, he began using it regularly, and his problems seemed to vanish.

After a couple of weeks, his commanding officer began to take notice, and said, "You seem to be a lot more relaxed. What's your secret?"

The sailor, embarrassed to give a straight answer, simply said he'd been getting better rest.

"Well good, sailor. You're going to need it," replied the officer. "Today's your turn in the barrel."

Alright so lets have both Dave and Earl pay there bets off. If Ron and Fez are going to be that hard on Dave concerning his paying off his bet than they should be equally as hard on Earl.

I think bets on the show have lost their impact. Fez and Dave always lose and the punishments just don't excite anymore. Do people really want to see Dave apart from his wife for two weeks? Or Fez with a silly haircut? All these bets need to stop. They just go nowhere anymore.

sithlord

I disagree. I think the bets are interesting, especially when they are paid off. Bets make the show more dramatic. It adds a certain level of excitment and positive tension to things. The energy level of the show seems to buld up in the days leading up to a bet deadline. And while I don't really want Dave to not see his wife for two weeks I think that the stress will make him that much better on the air.
