Actually I am pretty sure I am getting fired tomorrow. I just received and email from my boss asking me to come in at 7:00 am to discuss some things with HR.

I'll give it to you short: I told my boss today that I decided to have knee surgery to repair my acl/mcl that I fucked up playing hockey. He told me, that we had to catch up for a slow last month and I had said that I could be counted on. I appologized and said that this had to happen. I put it off for far too long. He wasn't happy and began to berate me. Basically telling me that I was worthless and all but said that this was hurt any future movement. I told him to fuck off and said I was leaving early. As I was grabbing the door knob he said to me that if I kept this up I would be on thin ice. I assumed the minute that I said the following I was done (either fired or assumed I quit). I told him to suck mi dick. Now I usually don't lose my temper, but for some reason, I just didn't care.

I guessI am just throwing this out there because I am pissed that it came to this over surgery, but I will not allow some fuck to dress me down over that.

Not sure, if they fire me I think there is thing called Cobra that I can get. But I am also pursuing the league's insurance

You will have the surgery paid by the league if you paid for insurance in the league signups. So that's ok. You will have the option to get COBRA for up to 18 months. What it is is basically you pay them and they pay your company to stay on the same insurance you were. But its expensive, 400/month for 1 person and like 800 for a family plan

And I did notify HR about my surgery before the fight, so I am hoping they processed it

If you have to be out medically, they legally cant fire you. you would go on temporary disability. That would cover you.

I completely understand the frustration over this. especially during your mental preperation for surgery. Im sure your not taking it lightly.

Hopefully you just get written up. I would walk in to the office tomorrow with a somber attitude. whats done is done. dont get defensive. Just take it in and just express the fact that you were pretty much belittled by your manager and you took matters the wrong way. Just DONT blow up!!!

If you really don't want to get fired. If I were you, I would ask to speak to him prior what he wanted to discuss. Let him know that you have regret over what you said before he left. Own up to it and blame it on a case of nerves or something and heartily apologize from the bottom of your heart. I think he may just have a change of attitude depending on how you deliver it.

2) Say that the stress related to the surgery (use an excuse that you don't like being put under and you're paranoid they'll operated on the wrong leg) boiled over when your boss put pressure on you.

3) Say that the surgery was needed to be a better employee in the future.

4) Be apologetic.

6) If they fire you, you can collect unemployment. Don't pull this "fuck you, I quit", shit. If they are going to fire you, just smile and nod and take it like a man and don't burn any bridges on the way out.

Also, in regards to disability, you can't just go out on it. You have to have already signed up for a disability plan. It's a form of insurance, just like your health insurance.

Hopefully you get this before you go to work bc I have some friends who have gone through this shit. First off, as tenbats stated, DO NOT QUIT. Second, do not admit to mistakes, admit that your sorry this had to occur do to a boss telling you you can't have a needed surgery. Truthfully, you should say you want to talk to HR yourself first and tell your side of things stressing that he started everything off in the direction of being unprofessional, and insulted you. Telling you not to have surgery even though u informed hr. Don't link it to hockey, they don't need to know why you need it. Even if you did hurt it there and told them already, now link it to an old injury that happened and you feel it in hockey. If you open a case with HR, it's very tough for them to get rid of you fast and it puts the light on your boss as well. If others are unhappy with him, it'll come out. For you to walk in and admit to everything, your done. Sure you did it, but did he not start it all. He's the boss/manager and is more responsible for keeping things civil. I'm not saying what you did was right, but you need to go in there and be confident and put some blame on this guy. I positive by what you posted this guy didn't give two shits about you and isn't about to change his tune after this. If only you two were a part of this whole situation, you need to get to HR before him and if not, ask to speak with them alone first in the meeting. Say things like he always was very unprofessional with you and seems to cause most of the issues with employees. Truth be told, be very civil with him and HR as others stated, but make the waters very murky and be calm as hell as you recount stories. It's very tough to fire employees that go to HR with issues tied to their boss. Especially if they have to ask him if he said having surgery would hurt your career and position with him. Act as though you are in severe pain on a daily, no minute to minute basis. So much that the pain meds are adding up and your body can't even take it.

Hey everyone. Sorry I could not post earlier for I was getting some shit taken care of before surgery tomorrow. I took Spoons advice (also smoked so I would be calm) and went to HR before the meeting. I explained what had happened leading up to this shit and also some other things my prick boss has done. The meeting was tense and they said that my actions were not going to go unnoticed. I appologized for cursing but did not say I was wrong. Back and forth we went (in a civilized manner) and basically I am stilled employed. I am going to be suspended without pay for two day starting today, which I will be under the knife tomorrow anyway. They said that it would have been more days and they were also planning on making me use my vacation days while I was out as well. I say it WOULD have been more but before me or my boss went in this morning a co-worker snuck into HR and explained what he had seen, and how my boss had also treated many others in the same manner. So instead of me getting into some shit, my boss will be under review and is suspended without pay for 1 week. Worst part is, I can't even celebrate this shit because I cant eat or drink before surgery. Thanks you for your support everyone
