That's the question being asked not only by residents of the New Jersey (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,299479,00.html#) gambling mecca, but by local and state officials.

Mayor Bob Levy's administration has said he's absent on temporary medical leave, but won't reveal if he's hospitalized and, if so, where Levy might be.

The city's business administrator, Domenic Cappella, appointed himself acting mayor last week, claiming Levy verbally transferred power to him on Sept. 26.

Some residents are outraged. "That's like a dictatorship," one resident told a city council meeting Wednesday night. "If I can write a letter saying I'm in charge, this is a third-world — if this is a democracy (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,299479,00.html#), what about the voters?"

Levy vanished a week ago — after signing seven city ordinances — amid reports that he was under federal investigation for falsifying his military record. The Press reported that the mayor had falsely claimed to be a Green Beret and was under investigation by the Justice Department.


Looks like the Justice Department uncovered some embarrassing information which made him look ridiculous. And a man of his position can't afford to be made to look ridiculous!

My favorite part of this story was hearing about 3 of the last five mayors were in jail and like half of the city councilmen have been incarcerated in recent years.

With the new Name Brand Shopping outlet in full swing, you need to go at least 7 or 8 blocks out.
And seriously, if you are anywhere near the Boardwalk and Casinos, you are cool. The missing corrupt Mayor, not withstanding, AC is actually cleaning up it's act. You have to go north and west to find a whore, anymore! There are a slew of neighborhood redevelopment programs going on. They are focusing on the A.C. employees. "Don't commute. live here and take the bus!". There are a ton of newly built Townhouses, and renovated apartment buildings for sale in the area. The crack whores are getting pushed further out.

And a 2 bedroom at the new towers, aboot a mil!!

when you think about it it's really ironic... people don't want to get ripped off in the street but they're more than willing to get ripped off inside the casino... as long as you're provided a luxurious place, nice rugs, a free drink, alot of cool bells and whistles, then you don't mind getting taken advantage of...

with the odds the casino gives you on alot of their games you more than likely have better odds on the street at not getting ripped off

It turns out he is resigning and turning himself into the Feds on a plea deal.

Something about receiving a military pension illegally by saying he was a Green Beret to get extra money.

Funny part:
Levy called in sick to work a week and half ago and has since disappeared. With his resignation, "this circus will come to an end," the city official said.

Levy is rumored to have been staying at a psychiatric treatment facility in Burlington County, N.J., since he suddenly vanished, though that could not immediately be confirmed.
