What American war strikes you as the most creepy? Not necessarily the most dangerous or the most brutal but which war just seems the most disturbing to you.

I choose World War 1. There has always been something about the war that has just frightened the hell out of me. The claustrophobia and dirtiness of the trenches, the lack of missions-- just constant stalemates. Because of the early technology and bad lighting, all the footage makes the soldiers look like they have death on their faces. Then throw in the fictional aspects- All Quiet on the Western Front, Paths of Glory, Blackadder Goes Forth, Johnny Got His Gun. WW1 freaks me out the most.

I don't know about the creepiest but anyone involved in this war still carries the scars today.

Read up on the Spanish-American War. Cheney and Rummy would have rejected the reasoning behind that war as total bullshit.

"You supply the pictures, I supply the war."

And, also, the most famous thing out of that war, Teddy Roosevelt charging up San Juan Hill, was total bullshit too. Sure, he charged up the hill: after an all African-American battalion cleared the way for him.

Civil War. Hands down. Going into battle knowing your brother or cousin is on the other side and now you may have to kill him just because the two of you couldn't have a decent political discussion at the dinner table.

Was he in the middle of doing hurricane coverage when they took that photo of him?

Also, I heard the Vietnam war was a pretty disturbing experience for most veterans.

I agree with Liddy.... WWI was a dark and excessively disturbing war.

Watching "The War" episode 6 right now.... and the more i learn about WWII, the more creepiness I see.
I don't think there is any way to really feel the effects of a war when you are so detached from it. So... to me... any war would be creepy and sad.

But I doubt those who were IN the trenches would have used those words to describe.

on a lighter note.... Doodie Wars were indeed the creepiest!!!

The Crimean War was fought between The Russians versus France, The UK, Sardinia and The Ottoman Empire (insert ominous ‘JAWS’ music here) . It lasted about 2 years and was fought on The Crimean Peninsula as well as the Baltic Sea and I believe Turkey. It was the classic Holy Land war complete with Imperialism, Religious Righteousness and naval destruction to boot!!!!!! The Crimean War paved the way for modern warfare as we know it today and is often overlooked because it was fought in 1854 and our Civil War which happened a few years later; is usually covered more thoroughly and with good reason. That being said, The Crimean War was very creepy, very bloody and had many different participants.

Civil War is definitely up there for me. One thing that is really freaky about the Civil War is not just the brother against brother thing but imagining the weather (I imagine it being slightly windy but a little hot but a clean heat) as men walked shoulder to shoulder to their deaths on glorious, colorful landscapes. The antiquated technology and antiquated medical care too. The contrast gives it such a surreal feeling.
