Yeah I'm a little late, but I've been in my car all night. That interview made me dislike Mencia more. "Think of how smart I am," "First it was $50,000, 58,000, 1,000,000." He really likes to talk himself up.

The last 30 minutes of the Robert Klein UNMASKED seemed to be edited by a child, or possibly Earl. It sounded as if Robert Klein rambled on and on and there were obvious cuts in the laughter/dialog that lead to him talking about things that weren't asked of him, etc... Did anyone else notice this or is Robert Klein genuinely a rambler?
I realize that the producers have time constraints for the program but it really did sound odd.
Badinia
12-02-2007, 03:05 PM
I thought Robert Klein's nutty ramblings were funny enough- although if you let him talk on any one topic for long enough, it always seemed to lead into a Rodney Dangerfield story. All roads lead to No Respect.

The Regan unmasked was great. Hysterically funny, and it was great to hear Ron having so much fun with it. You could tell how much respect he has for Regan, and that he finds him as hysterical as the rest of us.
David Brenner sounds like a very principled person.
He had a strong father.
His son is just like him.
He invented Observational Comedy.
Others took his scheme and made millions.
David Brenner moved onto current events comedy.
Talked about his show getting canceled before airing because of a gay character.

I wish I could find mp3 files of the Jim Norton & David Brenner episodes of unmasked.
I keep missing the show on XM. I've been searching for 6 years for these episodes.
Do I gotta give a prize out or something?
hook a fan up!?!
Thnx.

Yow, she's so awesome to listen to! I'm enjoying listening to her thoughts about her own act and unifying the audience in the moment.
I've thought about why so many lady standups are lesbians, too...I'm looking into it.

He is the inventor of the sledge-o-matic and one of the most iconic stand-up performers to ever wear suspenders. From props to politics, he is a legend in comedy and a genuine character. Join Ron Bennington as he goes one-on-one with the legendary Gallagher.

Heard the Gallagher replay about a week ago (or at least the part i could stand); the first Unmasked i didn't like on any level.
IMO the klein interview wasn't particularly funny or enjoyable, but at least it had some interesting comedy history.
I would rank the Norton, Newhart and 2 "Curb" eps as my faves so far.

Patrice was supposed to air tonight.. I have no idea why it didn't if it didn't. According to the word I got from Earl, the Patrice O'Neal Unmasked should be airing also at 2:00 pm tomorrow on 202.

It is funnier how Ron Bennington and Patrice O'Neal did their interview than how I wrote this summary.
Ron Bennington introduces Patrice O’Neal by saying where and when they usually meet and that they usually meet at the end of Opie and Anthony’s Show and the beginning of The Ron & Fez Show.
Patrice O’Neal makes an analogy to school by says that the business is run by the people in the front of the bus who don't like to be smacked around and he is in the back of the bus where people just goof on everything so he is looking for people in the middle of the bus where there is some of both.
He turned down Celebrity Fat Club because he would have to be a has-been but he was a never-was.
Patrice O'Neal's interview on Fox defending O&A's speech was because free speech is part of black people’s reparations after being held back for so many years. White guilt is their ally to say what they want until they need to get their stuff together.
Ron says that he would not think that this Unmasked would not be played in the same place as The Actor's Studio.
Patrice is not tired of fighting. Opie and Anthony are generals but he is not yet done fighting. His Black Phillip Saturday Night Virus Show is just that he doesn't like women and he isn't done offending people.
Patrice is not trying to make money; it is a dream that takes a long time. Patrice is trying to be righteous and honest to himself.
Patrice tapped danced in Aspen 1998 following what other people asked him to do( and ate whoppers) and felt depressed that he could not do what he wanted to do.
Patrice does his comedy to change people's lives and to mean something but not be profound about it.
He says that George Carlin & Pryor did not get the response they wanted as well.
He has fans everywhere; Opie & Anthony, Web Junk 20, His HBO Special: and he needs to mold them into what he truly is at his appearances. Patrice does not mind being boutique; He does not need a million strangers in his life. Ron brings up that Ricky Gervase brought up that he respected Patrice O'Neal's comedy out of all the comedians in the US. Patrice does not try to have an editing system. Patrice thinks that they came together when he went to the U.K. Patrice says that he was offered golden handcuffs in the US but could do his own material in the UK. Irony to us is getting eaten by a shark; irony for them is sarcasm. Patrice put himself out there with some of UK’s anti-american sentiment to show how comedy is different in the US. He fought through UK audiences to eventually gain their respect.
Patrice was making good money there in the UK but he got a call from Showtime. It happened six years ago and he still gets respect in the UK.
Patrice's HBO special is where he got more respect. Patrice put out what he wanted to put out. It is different than some comedians where he sees mega assholes make mega money; He says there is no karma and no one to complain to. The people he does not like to talk to are the ones that let their job qualify themselves. Bliinging is in the heart and even if his girlfriend had a diamond hat, she would not be.
Patrice's journey has not reached its pinnacle even though he has lots of people respect him. He says one of the problems facing attracting a larger audience is that white people don't like black anger.
Why do people have to be nice to you if that's not how he feels?
Patrice says he is aggressive and being passive aggressive makes him sick. He is not going to sell to an audience by changing his material.
Patrice is a fighter for things that are anti-now, against proceeding conventions.
Any man who says something is "inappropriate" makes him sick.
He wants to respect people because of their platform and not because what they are.
White people aren't the oppressor anymore.
They came through the 60s and now there are remnants of it which don't fit today.
Patrice says he doesn't think Africans are us. He knows that black Africans don't like black Americans. The kings and queens era of the past is over in Africa. Black Americans are a new species different than black Africans.
He doesn’t like how he sees Black Americans whole existence is based on how they deal with white people.
Patrice worked for the WWE for a short while and looks at how they are doing from time to time. Patrice says being back stage was amazing. The Rock was nicer than he should have been. Sean Cold was more like he expected.
Michael Jordan is awe-inspiring. Larry Bird is himself. Vince McMahon did not belittle his staff and Patrice respects that.
He doesn't want to meet people he respects. He met some people and now that he knows them, he thinks they stink.
Patrice liked his appearance on Fox being intelligent, funny. The person from NOW had another agenda and it is helping woman not needing her help. How does Condelezza Rice need help from NOW?
Patrice thinks an appropriate compensation for 15 years is 20 millions dollars.
He says Larry Sanders is the best show.
He doesn't mind silence at a comedy show.
Ron thinks he has things to say beyond the jokes. He doesn't care if he makes it but doesn't want to be a martyr. He doesn't want to do it just for the money.
His mom questions his actions but she already made it as far as she is going to get.He still got to fight.
His girlfriend is relentless. He says that she can be married to him but he is not married to her.
Ron says we need Patrice to continue fighting.
Then comes the audience Q&A.
He wants to ask questions to paint a picture between Imus and Al Sharpton without saying he is a hypocrite explicitly. Let them dig their own grave or shine their own light.
Patrice has an hour and twenty minutes of comedy where he is funny. He can get help by other people to extend it.
“This game is long and loney"
His podcasts are the most fun he has had since his only responsibility he has is to himself.
Patrice does what he wants and not what other people want.
He says young men should not sell their soul for some ass.
Patrice wanted to be real on Letterman.
People are either over or under ready.
Dave put Patrice over to look good and Patrice respects him for that.
Nice BigAAAAAAAAAAAAA joke.
Ron thanks Patrice for being there and Unmasked ends.
