I was a dishwasher in a pizza place in Hawaii. I was 16. It was a hellish job, but I have fond memories of it. I made $5.25/hr...minimum wage at the time in Hawaii.

Cleaning up a real estate office for 2 hours a day when I was 14. Minimum wage was $3.14, I think. I was able to save up enough to buy a fishing pole and a Nikon FE.

a friend of the family opened up a pharmacy, and hired me (at eleven) to help out

my first day in the shop: i was cleaning, and found a button under the counter ... i pressed it, and it did nothing ... pressed it again, and it did nothing

within minutes squad cars galore flocked to the store, and boy was my face red

When I was 16, I was a cashier at Giant Foods, a job I got just to hang out with a guy in bakery I had a crush on (he turned out to be gay, but that's another story).

Made $5 an hour, stayed for 2 years, and never got a raise.

I worked at a Toys R Us through the holiday season. I was 16. About six months before that, when I was still 15, I got a job with a friend at McDonalds. I worked there for half a day before the manager realized I wasn't 16. I never lied to them, they just didn't read my application.

My first paying gig was as a chimney swwep's assistant. It was crazy. The guy I worked for...and this is no shit...had a a phd in theology but swept chimneys, installed fireplacaes and did small remodel jobs for a living. If we were working in the shop we were listening to NPR while we were working. I sell building materials for a living now and I haven't heard NPR on a job site yet...or at least in a LONG time. Good times.

8th grade, my dad got me a summer job at the accounting firm where he worked. very boring and tedious at first, just going through giant binders of tax codes and replacing the old ones with the new ones (ex. "Remove pages 151-165 from Binder #3 and replace with the pages in the enclosed packet"--hundreds of times over).

eventually, i was sending out billing statements and filling out tax returns. i'm sure their clients would've been thrilled if they only knew!

When I was 10-12 me and my brother would give out flyers at churches for my Uncle's Beauty salons, but I dont remember getting paid, I also helped my brother and his friend with their paper route.

My very first job that I know I got paid was at 14 I was a busboy/dishwasher at a small restaurant. Even though the work was nasty, I had a great time. I worked with Artie Lange's sister (Stacy). She was so hot and all of her friends were even hotter. After the lunch rush and before the dinner crowd we used to have water fights in the kitchen. I would always try to get her soaked.

When I was 16, I worked at a tiny fast food chain called Bullets. For $6 an hour, I did it all: cashiering, drive-thru, cooking, cleaning, mopping vomit off the floors, etc. I used to have scars on my hands from the Easy Off I used while cleaning the broiler. I wasted away much of my junior year of high school there. Several of my friends worked there though, so it wasn't so bad.

I babysat and tutored, but my first "real" job was as a library page. I was supposed to put books and periodicals away but I often hid in the stacks and read.

The librarians didn't like me and referred to me as "the girl in the dungarees." My best friend, who was also a page, once told me that the librarians didn't like to go into the basement because it creeped them out. So one said, "Oh, just send that girl in the dungarees down there."

when i was 16 i got a job at a burger king making either 3.25 or 3.75 (can't recall which was the minimum wage...that's what i got). i did it all, cooking, cleaning, shoveling snow (the store and parking lot took up an entire block...i shoveled snow for an entire 8 hours at a time), and cashiering. my favorite, they got the bright idea to put me out by the drive-thru speaker to collect money before the cars would drive up to the window to collect their food. basically, i sat in the middle of the parking lot with a few hundred dollars on me. i weighed about 120 pounds and the neighborhood was shady, at best. that's part of the reason i ripped them off for hundreds of dollars when i worked the registers.

I got a job at a print shop right where my school bus dropped me off every afternoon. I was 16.

I started working there after school for the 2 hours I could each day and worked there all day during the summer. Eventually I became the store manager, for whatever that was worth, and worked there full time for a few months after I graduated.

Then the guy got really fucking weird and hired his buddy who had just been paroled. Put this guy up in his house and everything. So he promptly fired me. I heard a few months later that my boss's childhood friend who he had hired right out of prison stole something from his house and I guess he went away for that or at least got kicked out of my boss's house.

I had already moved on after that. I think the most I ever made, even as manager was like $8.00 an hour off the books. No bennies, nothing but the straight cash.

Worked at a pizza place at 15 (underage) my bosses were a family of Greek dictators. Scream and yell and swear at me all night. One day I slipped on some oil on the staircase while carrying some supplies down, caught my forearm on the corner of a fusebox, tore the muscle, needed a shitload of stitches. Boss freaked out because I was underage, he ended up paying for the hospital treatment out of his pocket.

When I was 15 I worked for Seneca/Libbys foods. I operated a pea picking combine. Worked 7 days a week 12 hours (5am to 5pm) a day for 3 months. I did that each summer for 3 years and then worked as a pizza delivery driver in the winter. In 1995 the combining paid 6.50/hr, but half of the workweek was overtime pay which was nice for a kid in high school. The pizza place paid the same plus tips.

The combines harvested at about 1.5 mph. It was entertaining to see members or our "crew" fall asleep and slowly drive into the middle of a field, river or barn etc..

When I was 16 I worked as a dishwasher at a nursing home for $3.15/hour. I also had to dish out the food and know what diets got what. The worst were the people who had to have everything pureed. Some of that stuff looked inedible.

The best part was after the cook would go home someone would bring out a bottle of vodka. Then we'd mix it with one of those big containers of OJ or cranberry juice, crank up the music and get wasted while cleaning up.

It wasn't completely hell, but it was hellish. I worked in the dishwashing room, which was affectionately known as "the dungeon". It was hot and steamy and my hands constantly hurt from holding the scrubbers. I had to alternate between there and the walk-in freezer, which was nice at first, but really fucks with your body temp.

When I was done, I'd get to walk out to my car that had been cooking in the 95+ degree heat of the parking lot. It's not like I was at the beach or anything. It was in a pretty quiet shopping center that was anchored by a Costco.

I appreciate the experience, but no way in hell I would do it again.

I was a baby-sitter from the time I was 12 through the time I left for college. To tell the truth, I made pretty good money baby-sitting . . . $10 per child per hour. . . and parents loved me.

Between the time I was 12 to the time I was 14, I'd cat-sit for my sister's best friend's Himalayan cat. Again, not a shabby payday; who knew it was worth $150 to watch a cat?

My freshman year of college, I had a work-study job at the library much like Ms. Fuzzy's. Except I worked in the microforms and current periodicals room. Now I know the difference between microfilm and microfiche! I think that job paid around $5.15 an hour, but it was based on the financial aid granted to me, not on any real skills I had (or lacked.) The job was pretty dull, and I could always find the time to do my homework while sitting at the help desk, so I didn't mind it too much.

The summer following freshman year, I worked as a cashier at Grand Union. I truly hated being a cashier.

He'd pick me up at 6 AM on Saturday mornings and drop me back off at 6 at night. He'd buy me lunch and at the end of the day he'd throw me a crisp 100 dollar bill.
