Just a comment on Perry's point that the public has not protested the Iraq conflict the way they did the Vietnamese war. The general thought is that we're no more apathetic.

I disagree. I think the difference is that there was a draft for the Vietnam war. Generally, people will care and will protest when it hits them personally.

I think it's a bit of both. There is no denying that during the Vietnam era this country had plenty of people who were following up on JFK's call to service, etc (peace corp, not armed services)
