I gotta agree with the swastika thing - I remember doodling that in my notebooks in grade school - like 1st and 2nd grade. I also would doodle the Jewish star. They were easy designs to make and yea, as a little kid, those are cool things to draw. I didn't know any meaning behind them. Just like 3-D boxes and triangles.

Hi Ya Buddays!!!
The swastika is an extremely powerful symbol. The Nazis used it to murder millions of people, but for centuries it had positive meanings. What is the history of the swastika? Does it now represent good or evil?
The Oldest Known Symbol
The swastika is an ancient symbol that has been used for over 3,000 years. (That even predates the ancient Egyptian symbol, the Ankh!) Artifacts such as pottery and coins from ancient Troy show that the swastika was a commonly used symbol as far back as 1000 BCE.
During the following thousand years, the image of the swastika was used by many cultures around the world, including in China, Japan, India, and southern Europe. By the Middle Ages, the swastika was a well known, if not commonly used, symbol but was called by many different names:
China - wan
England - fylfot
Germany - Hakenkreuz
Greece - tetraskelion and gammadion
India - swastika

people "brand" themselves because they have become so inculcated with advertising that it becomes a shorthand in itself and becomes easy to understand. not only do the products themselves advertised on tv create a brand image but also become associated with the tv shows during which they advertise. the tv shows (or magazines, newspapers, websites, etc) all cater to a particular demographic, and by saying that you participate in these media products, you proclaim your demographics. demos are no longer limited to age/sex/area of residence, but also things like political and religious ideologies. advertising and branding in particular have become their own language, and by identifying with a particular product or combination of products you create your own dialect of that language.
