View Full Version : Where should we go this weekend - Boston or DC?
Freitag

Simple enough. The wife and I have decided to take a weekend trip starting this Friday, and we've narrowed it to either Boston or Washington DC, which I know a lot of you fine folks are from.
Both cities are rich in history, culture, and fine dining. However, we're not sure where to go. Boston, or DC?
Unfortunately, Boston has Tall James and Fallon which immediately gives DC the edge.
What say the fine people of RF.net... do we head North, or do we head South?

Wonderful callback. Only reason we're not going is because it's too long of a drive for a 2-day weekend.

I've been to both cities a few times and enjoyed my stays in both places. However, I've never gone to Boston and not had an absolute blast. So my vote would go towards Beantown. The only problem i see is I like to go out drinking and do the whole "party scene", so that's why my vote swings that way. I'm not sure what types of social activites you and your wife are into. I'm also a little bit of a history buff, and while both cities are extremely rich in history I'd prob. lean towards D.C. as there are a few more historical things to see. It all depends on what you like.

I chose DC but you cant miss with either place. I love DC, great places to eat and all the sites and history of the capital is great.
Boston is a fun place, there maybe some fun small bars to go to with the ALCS or WS going on. Great places to eat and beautiful this time of year. I think foliage starts soon?

Apparently the foliage this time of year is really great, says my hippie friend.
If you want to come to DC, the bright side is that there should be less crowds at the museums this time of year. And if you decide to come here, DO NOT go to any "Italian restaurants" or try and get pizza. They're all garbage.

Yeah, that's why we're kind of leaning towards Boston; apparently it's a good time of year for Clams and seafood, plus I never really thought of DC as a "foodie" town.
I think the main goal is to knock off four things off the "1000 Things To Do Before You Die" list.

You people all act like we don't have trees in the NY-Metro area.
Who wants to see foliage in New England when we could drive an hour up to my dad's instead and see the same brilliant colors without ever leaving New Jersey?
Plus, with two State Parks nearby to walk through why would I sit in traffic with all the City Dwellers who think it's "quaint" to look at leaves?

no one said that parts of nj arent similar, but the question was about where to go for a quick vacation and people gave their opinions in why Boston is a good choice. NJ does have some areas that show foliage but it is much better in New England

OK, so there's an 80% chance of rain this weekend.
But, we've got plans:
We're going to get the "GoBoston" card, and hit up the following places on Saturday:
Breakfast at the Paramount
Pick up Go Boston card.
Sam Adams Brewery
Lunch and catch some of the Rutgers/WVU game
Aquarium
USS Constitution
Then walk around the back bay.
Sunday:
Brunch
Freedom Trail
Fanieul Hall
Leave Boston by 3PM to be in WABC's broadcast range in time for the Jets game.
Any other suggestions?
