I'm not far away from considering it. I'm paying over $10K a year in property taxes which is just insane. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I could sell my house here and use the money to get me a mansion in the midwest. And, with my superior, liberal, northeast education and sensibilities I'd be running that place in no time - Bartertown styyle!
Poll: Many New Jerseyans want to leave state (http://www.app.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071017/NEWS/710170342/1001/DWEK01)
"I love New Jersey," Huffenus said. "New Jersey has everything I want. . . . But I want that (financial) peace of mind. You're penalized for living here all your life, you work hard and save all your life, and then you're taxed."
Huffenus is among the half of state residents who would like to move out of state, a new Monmouth University/Gannett New Jersey newspapers poll shows.
The poll comes on the heels of a Rutgers University report last week that confirmed a sharp increase in the number of people leaving the state. That report said the state lost $680 million in tax revenue last year as a result.

But did you see how much gas costs in NJ.
I hate to be a NJ hater here but EVERYTIME I talk to someone from/about NJ it always comes back to the price of gas being 15 cents less and they pump it for you. My inlaws live in NJ in a similar size house as I do and their taxes are 2 1/2 times what I pay here in CT with similar ammenities.
They rave about the gas price but I fill up once a week so I pay 3 dollars a week more X 50 weeks = $150.
They also gripe about car insurance rates being over the moon

everything in this state is insane price wise. taxes, food, housing, apartments. AND the state runs in the red with a HUGE deficit.
we have some of the richest people in the world here, along with counties whose median income is the highest in the country, yet no one can balance a budget. it makes no sense.
they give a property tax rebate and at the same time raise sales tax for 6% to &7 and everyone is dumb enough to think the state government is doing something to help us.

come over to ct and raise the value of my house please
This is where the tax policy in this country has gone mad. People automatically vote for candidates who tell them the easy thing (I'm gonna cut yer taxes.)
But there is a problem with that theory, especially at the federal level. At the federal level our government taxes at a progressive level, being that the highest earners pay a higher percentage in taxes...because in theory they are getting a higher rate of return on their tax investment. But in the past 30 years in that country, we have seen the tiered tax level become flatter...so our federal government has less money to send to the states in the means of funding mandates.
So the states (who generally tax at a level close to flat on income & a consumption: read sales tax) don't tax on this progressive system. They generally struggle raising funds and are now having a huge problem providing local governments with the means to support their programs.
So the local governments have one & only one true solution: Raise yer property taxes.
It's not a New Jersey issue, but a national issue. Local governments are raising property taxes and the locals are bitching...as they should. But as they "vote out the local government" they aren't looking at the root cause.....the federal government & the state governments aren't doing their jobs right....so they are only trying to balance the books.
So the next politician that tells you they are gonna "cut yer taxes" is not only a liar, but a politician who doesn't understand how the system works.

Nope, they have two. Your solution and one other-
CUT SPENDING.
New Jersey is a state where school districts exist where no students are. But district superintendents are still paid to supervise these districts.
Just one of many things that makes Jersey the most corrupt, overtaxed state in the union.

Then that speaks to dogshit planning on the behalf of New Jersey. Each level of government should be consistently have a non-partisan body assessing the usage of their programs, be they parks, schools or roads.
I did not know that New Jersey had that issue. Where I live we are under the issue of too many kids in our classrooms. What is the average class size in NJ?

I blame some parts the bribed politicians (NJ's got a heap of them every year), other parts Rt.17 and some roads that no one's heard about, seven bits huge population, and of course New York City all the way. Mix that shit up and you've got some disgusting high prices in most things.
We do have lower gas prices however... ;)

There's a shitload of people from Jersey down here already.

We call 'em "Quitters". Don't ever rely on them or trust them. They'll bail on you at the first sign of trouble.

I'm shocked to find out that people actually live in New Jersey. I just thought it was a place you drove through to get somewhere else.

Things aren't too good here in NY either. A pompous arrogant creep named Elliot Spitzer was elected governor. Hopefully he will be a 1 term governor

So what exactly has this creep done to ruin the lives of New Yorkers?

No, that's Deleware.
My parents just moved out (to New Hampshire), my step-father worked for Middlesex County for over 20 years and retired in May. They were out as soon as they could leave.
It really is a very corrupt state, I'd put Louisiana right there behind it though.
It is ridiculous up there, that's why i never came back. I knew I'd have to live with my parents for years before I could afford to move out.
Whereas here in Texas I have no state income tax and as soon as I graduated college had my own 900 sf apartment for $500/month. You couldn't pay me to move back up there because that money wouldn't even pay for land let alone a house.
But I do hate pumping my own gas, it sucks! And I miss honking, you'll get shot here if you do that. I had to kick the habit.

Here in our district, it's about 25-30 depending on which grade. High School I don't know, because we have 3 cities go to Mainland, and the graduating class size rivals some colleges.

Please come and be on one. Or at least form one. Just come and help us dude. At least bring a Ryder truck and a can of gas so I can pack the family and torch the house.
