So the FCC wants to repeal some of the restriction on media companies. We love to talk about the wonder of the marketplace and how competition fosters growth and innovation. Yet in this country give most industry a chance and they would all love to be monopolies with as little oversite as possible

On the plus side, they are regulating decency.:blink:

remember the last de-regulation that occured:

clinton allowed more tv exposure for meds and the pharm companies made a fortune.

this reeks of corruption because the left-wing runs just almost all of the media (tv, print).

Almost all of the current FCC commissioners were appointed by Bush so I dont see it as a left-wing issue, just big business

That makes perfect sense seeing how much the left wing LOVES big Pharmaceutical companies.

What are you talking about? Are you getting these talking points from Bill Oreilly? He loves to call everyone else "mainstream media" liberal, even though the majority of the media has done a piss poor job that last 6 years.

Plus the left and big pharma have been against each other for years. The left wants to lower their profits to make it more affordable for Americans. Pharma is and has been in bed with the right for years.

This new law or ruling is being made clearly for Rupert Murdoch.

Exactly. Anyone who makes a link between "the left" and deregulation of media is at the least totally & completely uninformed.

The "media" at least the television & radio media exist on the public domain. They don't own the waves...the public does. So the government has not only the right, but the responsibility to regulate it.

The very level of concentrated media ownership in this country is fucking frightening. 6 corporations basically own 90% of the media sources in this country. Think about that....6 fucking corporations are telling you what the news is. They shape the national discourse and we just go for the ride. If you wanna see the depth of the ownership, click on this site (http://www.cjr.org/resources/)which tracks the holdings of the major media companies.

People can run around and claim the media & liberals bullshit, but it's simply that....bullshit. The media is just the mouthpiece for the corporations & what favors them. This regulation is a gift to News Corp, Disney, Viacom, Time Warner, Bertelsmann & GE.

A perfect example of government governing for the special interests.
