View Full Version : Will I ever get "that job"?

I mean "that job" by the job that can change things around for me.

It seems like whenever I apply for a job, no matter what it is, I always end up with the shit end of the stick. I applied for a lab technician position near me, and I thought I had the job in the palm of my hand. Excellent benefits (I haven't had benefits since I worked at a pet store years ago), and a pretty nice wage. And then the dreaded phone call came in, claiming that they decided on two other people(one of them being a friend of mine) and that they'll keep my resume on file and if something was to come around I'd be the first to call.

Frankly I was pissed.

4 1/2 years of experience with the position I was applying for, and I get walked over. Now, once again I am stuck working for shit pay/hours at a shopping center doing overnights stocking shelves. I hate to sound like a whiny bitch, but it's like the "life knife" never stops stabbing away. I think something good is gonna happen, but it decides to turn around and give me the ol' "fuck you".

Oh, I am going to school..but that is on the decline, especially after all the hype my school gave me on things, which turned out to be nothing but lies. (Not getting college credits, even after they stated that I was).

Sometimes you can turn an otherwise crappy job into "That Job" if you stay positive and keep your eyes and ears open.

I hope that's a joke. I hate that "You'll find (whatever) when you least expect it" kind of childish outlook on life. Love, Money, Career, whatever. Life isn't even or fair and sometimes people get fucked.

I think he should stay optimistic but not fool himself with such nonsense talk.

This sounds just like an episode of The Hills I just watched...Heidi stole that job right out from under poor Elody.

Do you have a college degree? That can be a deciding factor.

Also, if you're unhappy with your current job, have you looked into temping? Volt specializes in technical temps who do specialized lab work.

I've done temp agencies and all came up short especially since the only positions they can find for me are ones that are the hours of when I'm at school.

Right now, I'm only going for my "certificate" which is nothing but shit honestly. Only way of getting an associates with the school I'm going to is finish out the one in Piscataway and then head off to Livingston for 2 terms (6 months). I can't even transfer anywhere since no one accepts "certificate credits".

Sadly there have been jobs where I could have made it into a higher up position, but because I didn't kiss ass, I got looked over for someone who was planning on quitting the company. Retail at its finest.

I've been looking for new work since June. The temp agency I worked with couldn't help me out or didn't return my phone calls, so I figure you're better off alone and continuing to plug in your resume at places you think your fit to go to and honestly I think luck does enter into it with some jobs. Maybe not as much if you have a degree and nice resume.

Okay, so this is fucked up. I just got done posting that a few minutes ago and my temp lady (who I haven't from since the beginning of August) calls me about interviewing for a job being a full time mail clerk for an insurance agency. Seriously. Very weird how this shit works.

That being said, I was about to say, why are you limiting yourself to one temping agency? When I was out of work, I was plugging away at... I think it was four agencies before I got my gig. and after six months of hell, I converted that experience to a full-time job in a different department.
