What is the line between consciously growing a beard or not caring enough to shave?

You're going to look like you're not caring for a good two weeks no matter what.

I think it helps if you keep the neck shaved.

Nobody likes a neckbeard.

when you don't give it a nice edge along the neck and cheeks then you're just an animal...

Yeah, I though about all the Kyle Orton posts on Deadspin as soon as you said neck beard.

Yeah, I'd agree that once you're shaving the neck and, if necessary, the cheekbones, you have yourself a beard.

I'm Italian, so I can knock that two weeks down to about three days.

You need to get an electric trimmer so you can keep it evened up, and definitely keep the neck clean and get a nice line on the cheek. But it will definitely look bad for about the first two weeks. Real bad...

If you shave the neck it shows you are growing a beard, not just not caring

i've been in a bad stretch over the last lear or so

i hate shaving regularly, and i bleed like i shaved my neck with a broken clam shell ... if i let the beard grow, the shave is always clean -- so i've been letting my beard grow out

there's a bit of not caring invlolved, but it kinda works for me

i do trim along my cheeks, and around my mouth -- but i don't shave my neck (would defeat the purpose)

i've always had a history of switching up my facial hair (multiple incarnations of goatees and porkchop sideburns) ... the beard is a little easier to manage

The neck and the cheeks were the first 2 things I thought about immediately; Right now I'm working on a winter beard cause it's about to get cold where I'm working. I'm 2 weeks into it as of today and through my many mirror checks/ day I can see it's starting to look like I'm 'making an effort' and not 'not caring'.

I've been just letting the thing grow. Pretty proud of my beard as of late and my fiance will kill me if I shave it. When King Hippo's Bandaid said at the last Bar 9 how I looked like a viking I couldn't have been prouder. I'm gonna keep growing it as long as I can.

i let mine grow with the not caring aspect of it, i dont trim it to make it even, i just let it grow, i only shave the neck part b/c if i let it grow out for more than a few days it gets really annoying and irritating and itchy

This guy lives pretty strictly by that standard.

Goddamn, that's disgusting.

The guy isn't skinny, but he has the neck of a man about 8 times his size. How the fuck does that happen? Can he inflate it to attract mates and scare off predators?

I shave once a week, doing the face and the head is a pain in the balls.

I was going to look for a pic that could portray Fallon shaving, but I'm afraid of what I'd find.

I went a month this summer, I looked like shit.

This is from two years ago.

My current progress...

The pic is about a month old. I'm pretty much the same, but the goatee and mustache is a little more full. I shave the rest of my face about twice a week. Sometimes once.

What is the line between consciously growing a beard or not caring enough to shave?

I've been cursed genetically with no jaw line, so I shave the neck to give the illusion of a jawline, which fools no one except my tired eyes looking at itself into a mirror through the steam of a shower. One day I'll have it all sucked out.

I say you time travel back to 1998 and go for the chinstrap.

I unfortunately can not grow a beard

once a few days past, my facial hair turns the color red, like my evil mother

it is scary looking, I must shave

Yea same here. If I attempt to do so it just looks like I have pubes for chin hair.

But even that doesn't stop me from ignoring a shaving schedule.
