View Full Version : How popular would you like R&F to be?

As I listen to the show, and peruse the glorious file library ... I am offended in my soul that R&F are not worshipped as comedy gods all over this country.

I would like the show to be on multiple markets all over the nation.
I would like the show to be televised.
I would like there to guest host other shows.
I would like them to read off Grammy winners.
I would like them to appear on Regis and Kelly, the View, Oprah, Bill Maher, the Daily Show, Tonight, Late Night, Late Late Night, Tomorrow Night, all the shows.
And I would like all the people in this great land to walk the earth with the innate knowledge that no matter what they do they will never be as funny or cool as Ron and Fez.

Is that too much to ask?

I think they're fine just the way they are. They are both well off, I'd imagine. And you don't want them to get over-exposed. That wouldn't be good for Fez's heart! No, I think they're great the way they are and we who know have a little something over those who don't.... and it's a laugh that Ron & Fez gave us.

Popular enough for WJFK to bring them back and replace the crap they have now.

I like that for once in my life I sit this close to the cool table.:smoke: I don't need a mass market appeal show. Keep it on the level it is and give Mr B and Fezzie W what ever they want. Mass appeal brings compromise. This is like indy film that Ronnie loves and Im in on it. I like having a whatley posse t shirt and a monkey house sticker on my car and only the few know what it means.

You think the boys could cope with the pressure? Third stent? Do they really need it in their lives? I'm all Billy Joel, just loving them the way they are.

I'd like them to be so popular that paparazzi follow them around everywhere with cameras.

I guess this is the big question. Many times I've heard Ron say that if there was any justice in the world Tom Waits would be the biggest star in the country. I feel the same way about the buddays. If there were any justice in the world they would be making more money than David Arquette or Andy Dick, and they sure as hell would be better known.

I personally want Ron & Fez to be so popular that the listening thread does 15-30 pages a day and I can continue to feel as though I'm doing some good by encouraging RonFez.Net and supporting the boys. I haven't felt this good about what I do in a long time(If ever) If that sounds selfish..so be it!
I sincerely love my buddays and the time I spend supporting them.

I think they're fine the way they are now. I wouldn't want them to become bigger than O&A because I like the community that Ron and Fez created. O&A and a lot of other nationally heard shows don't seem as communal or close to the fans as the R&F. It really sucks because I don't live in New York and can't get the full effect of the community, but I still feel like I'm in the know through the boards and listening to the show.

Isn't it a catch 22?

The reason we like being "in the know" is because we know R&F are way better than most entertainers out there. We selfishly hope the rest of the world won't catch on.

Isn't that wrong?

I would like them to be popular enough so that when Ron goes into one of his "This is where my life is?" rants I can feel comfortable that it is 100% bit/0% reality and not the 65%/35% split that I'm feeling now.

Or at least more popular than Garrison Keilior with the thinking radio listeners.

I don't think so. They may be only on Satellite Radio, but their in the # 1 market. They've got a local radio vibe with a huge potential audience.

I'd love them to succeed as much as possible, but if they ever got to the point where they couldn't allow us into the studio, or shake our hand at a listener event, I think something would be lost.

I love where they are at now... and I want them to be as popular as they want to be.

Most importantly, I hope they never leave XM. I cant think of a better forum.

On a side note, I hope they never lose Earl.

I'd like them to make some serious cash while still feeling like a "regional" show. They're technically national now, and I think the parts where they branch out more in general as opposed to focusing on the east coast (especially the upper part) really slow things down. I've never liked the idea of national radio shows of the boys' style...they always end up losing something and becoming so generic, so it's a crappy catch-22 to want them to succeed but still stay "local."

I want them to be more popular than Jesus; I don't know which will go first-Ron and Fez or Christianity.

There's a long list of people who should not be better known than Ron and Fez.
Garrison Keillor is definitely one of them. Also on NPR, Click and Clack. Pen and Teller, Tom Leykis, Randy Jackson, Gloria Steinem, Milli Vanilli, Colin Farrell, Victoria and David Beckham, Rip Taylor, Joey Buttafuco ... the list goes on and on. Why is it that when these people's names are mentioned everyone knows what you're talking about, but when Ron and Fez are mentioned they go "who?"

It's just wrong.

I'll go with, as popular as they want to be. If they want to go the the top, I know they can. If they are content, so am I.

Whenever they take the greatness of the Ron Bennington line of the day and incorporate it into the ending of the show, immediately preceded by a silly '2001' jingle - then we will know it has gone too far.
(sound like another show we know?)

As popular as Ron wants..
IMO, too popular could make some jhole minmax every minute of the buddays. The show could lose it's aptitude for peaks and valleys.

I was on a date with a girl a few months ago, and she didn't know who Penn & Teller were. I was somewhat surprised. I asked another person at the bar and he didn't know. Finally, I asked the bartender, who knew.

How did that even come up in conversation? I've gone at least 6 months without even thinking about Penn and Teller.

I can't even remember. It's not like I'm a big fan or anything. It might have been because of The Aristocrats.
