I'm going to order some online from Azerbaijan. They've got a special going: one flu shot and one bootleg DVD of "I Am Legend" for $39.99.
Seriously, I'm 38 years old and I haven't had one flu shot in my life and ain't about to start now. I can probably count on one hand the number of times I've caught the flu. Of course now I've just jinxed myself but I like to live on the edge. That's just how I roll.

Never! I drink too much whiskey for the flu to have a chance against me.

Never have gotten one, and never will. I get the flu, but it rarely knocks me out of commission for longer than a day or two.

The company is offering them for FREE and the last time I got one, I spent the winter with fewer colds, sniffles and complaints.
If I paid for it, I'd have to go to Target or ShopRite and fork over $40.

I see 6 people voted yes, but few speaking out. I never get the flu shots but they are offering them at work and I'm considering it. Reason I didn't before is the stigma / myth of the flu shot making you sick.
But I really don't want to get the flu and I'm getting older (42) and wondering if I should make the leap.

I never used to get them, because I really never got sick. But after going through chemo 12 years ago, my immune system was really shot and I needed to get the shots. For the first 5 years afer chemo, I would get really sick twice a year (once in the spring and once in the fall) where I couldn't get out of bed, etc.
Plus, with having a child, it just makes sense to get one.

Since the company I work for is now in the flu shot business, I suggest all you walking virus magnets get the shot. My bonus could depend on it!
This year will be the first time I get a flu shot. I'm in contact with dozens of people every day, and every single winter I invariably get the flu. I always felt it was better to fight it off naturally, but I'm sick of being laid up for 2 or 3 days feeling like a dog's ass every time I get it.

Your office could not possibly be the germ factory my school is. Now I have to worry about Staph infections. The flu? please

I got the shot last year for the first time. No problems. I did it again a few days ago and I only had a small pain in my arm, nothing now. It cant hurt. My company also offers them for free. Why not?

last year there was a shortage of flu shots and all i heard were reports of how it wasnt necessary unless you were very young or very old.
this year there are more than enough shots for everyone and i read articles about how EVERYONE NEEDS the flu shot.
they should make a drug that curse the flu if you get it
if no one was vaccined what percent of people would get sick?
i always think how easily this vaccine could be a placebo drug

I never did and probably never will.
I heard that the flu shot is only 1 strain of flu and there are many other flu's you can still get.

When you get a flu shot you get the government ID chip for free. Or at least that's what I heard on Coast to Coast AM.

I heard that the flu shot is only 1 strain of flu and there are many other flu's you can still get.
That's only slightly true: the flu shot has a bunch of strains of flu, but they are determined by the CDC to be the "hot" strains for any particular year.
Information about this year's flu shot (2007-08) can be found online at the CDC website:
http://www.cdc.gov/flu/professionals/acip/composition0708.htm#composition
The reason you would need to get a flu shot next year is because the "hot" strains change from year to year.
You could still get the flu, even one of the strains in the shot, depending on how well your body builds antibodies. The earlier in the vaccination cycle you get the shot, the more time your body has to build the antibodies.
A couple other things to note about the flu shot vs. the flu nasal vaccine:
* The flu shot is made from chicken eggs; don't get one if you're allergic to chicken eggs!
* The flu SHOT contains killed viruses while the flu NASAL SPRAY contains live viruses. The nasal spray is NOT recommended for kids, people age 50 and up, pregnant women and anyone else with a compromised immune system.
* It's recommended that anyone who takes care of children or the elderly, lives/works in a dorm or other close-quarters environment (i.e. - a "germ factory" of an office, etc.) or travelers to the Southern Hemisphere get a flu vaccine.

Point taken. But most of my co-workers who are sick blame it on getting from their kids. So I suppose I now need to worry about Staph too? Christ.

We do a flu shot clinic for our tenants every year. After getting the upper resp. flu AND the stomach flu one year (2 months apart), I've started getting a shot 2 years ago...no flu since then. i would only recommend it if you're susceptible to the flu (some people I know NEVER get it).
