While shopping at my local Supermarket this evening I was grabbing some lovely Organic Half and Half when I noticed the shelf was already stocked with Egg Nog. Usually I see this the week before Thanksgiving but mid to late E-rock-tober seems a bit early, even for a souless place like Los Angeles (cheap shot).

So my question is: Whats the right amount of time for the stores to start stocking for the upcoming Holiday season?

I'm poor. The sooner they stock it, the sooner they start marking it down. I'm assuming you mean the actual presents. If you're talking about decorations, I don't really care. As for "setting the mood"... NO CHRISTMAS MUSIC UNTIL AFTER THANKSGIVING!!!!

i've never gotten the indignation people love to express over when holiday stuff is sold. if they want to sell xmas trees in april, what should i care?

Seriously though, every holiday is like that as soon as Christmas comes down you see valentine's day replacing it and then easter rushed in to replace that. It's too much. I'm trying to get my family to go low-key on everything except the decorations. All the candy, cards and "presents" that people think they're entitled to for these non-Christmas/Hanukah/Birthday/Anniversary holidays is retarded. That is why kids are so spoiled today.

At a Duane Reed near me I noticed a sneaky subliminal ploy.

It was a cardboard stand at the end of an isle that had regular lightbulbs in it. But the stand itself was a print of christmas lights and decorations. So, in a few weeks, I think they'll just take out the regular lightbulbs and put in christmas lights. Pretty sneaky sis.
