My Question is Are you are Fan ofAll You Can Eat Buffets? If not , do you discriminate becasue you feel its Gluttony, or just dont like the food?


I am a Huge Fan of Buffets, but I always feel guilty after eating 4 or 5 Plates

I love AC and Vegas Buffets

I love all you can eat Sushi and Asian Buffets

I am not a fan of the Hometown or Cheap Chain Buffets

Always a Fan when a Nice 3 or 4 Star Restaurant has a Sea Food all you can Eat


My Favorite is Big Ed's all you can Eat Ribs (in NJ)

The Only buffet I appreciate is the RCCL Midnight Buffet. Problem is, I just finished dinner 2 hours ago. (No hippo, I will NOT go to the early seating:thumbdown:)

agree...thats the only buffet i normally hit up theres a great thai restaurant in my area that is actually high quality buffet food...but you have to be willing to pay for it...25 bucks per plate but worth it...they actually gaurantee fresh food and if it sits to long it goes in the trash...or so they say

I was talking to Buzzard about the AC buffets. If you are a fan of nice, big, cleaned shrip and oysters, you can definitly get your moneys worth at the Borgada. Their carving stations and sides are also pretty good.

Okay, getting back on topic here, the best buffet is Sweet Tomatoes or Souplantation. There aren't any here in New York but they have them in Florida and California.

They have the best salad bar in the world!

just had endless shrimp, saw an all you can eat option and went with it

not too shabby, medium to larger shrimps involved, not that I'm a fan of Red Lobster

There are some decent Chinese buffets. I like the soft-serve ice cream that they have.

There is one in Garden City... Jeff LOVES that place. I'm not big on seafood so I don't like it that much. In Huntington there is a buffet called East that is an upscale China Buffet type place. It's $35 a plate and ridiculously delicious, especially the prime rib

We used to have a Chinese/Vietnamese buffet here in Houston called Fu-Kim Grand Palace. The food was pretty good, plus it's fun to say "anyone want to go to Fu-Kim?".

Buffets are gross.

It's bad enough that in most restaurants you have 3-5 people handling your food in some way (prep guy, chef, & food runner), but when you go to a buffet, you have more like 30 or more that have in someway handled a particular dish (even if its just the spoon or a pair of tongs)!

...and sneeze guards? Please! I'd put more trust in a bootlegged Chinese made prophylactic! Let all of these places hand out hairnets or paper chef's hats and latex gloves to all of the patrons before getting on that fat-assed conga line up to the steam table!

I get an amex bill that reads like the table of contents to a restaurant review magazine every month!

I'm just saying that buffets, for the most part, are the lowest in quality and you play russian roulette with your immune system everytime you chance eating at one.

I've been in this business for a while now. I can assure you that the quality of the food is comprimised greatly when a cook is not making a dish to order. All of the accountability is gone and it probably alienates the kitchen from any sense of accomplishment.

Many times I'll go into the kitchen to put in an order and I'll hear a chef ask how the people liked their dishes at a previous table. Or a customer will ask me to tell the chef how good something was. All of that is gone with a buffet.

Also, cooks, (as well as good bartenders):wink: like to have everything ready that they can to avoid being "in the weeds". So I can safely assume that items such as shrimp or steak are made in big batches way before most diners will be eating the stuff, leaving your food to sit around either drying it out or sitting around in the back stacked like firewood possibly going off temp or being put somewhere that food shouldn't be kept just for a matter of convenience.
