I know these guys are associated with another less than loved radio show but my wife's a big fan ( much more than I am ) and they were playing locally last night ( Newtown CT ) so we went to see them.
In all it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be ( despite the fact that they were playing in a community town hall and there was no booze !!! ) and I actually enjoyed it. It was a little long though ( went about 2 1/2 hours ).
The negatives were that guy Shuley ( spelling ??? ) and Yucko The Clown.
They were awful !!!
Shuley was acting as sort of the MC and would do jokes, bad ones, in between the other sets. He was getting " heckled " by some guy in the crowd and his comebacks, which he claimed were funnier than the guys heckling, were of the 5th grade variety.
Yucko's only bits were when he kept reffering to the big black dildo he had in his suitcase and that was funny for about a second.
I was suprised how good Richard Christy was and he might'be been the best of the bunch despite his lack of material.
Sal, who I despise on the show itself, was actually pretty funny and most of his jokes were on the racist side.
I was impressed that most of them never mentioned the Stern show at all either in their act.
The only person who did was that loser Shuley who did his Elliot Offen impersonation every 3 minutes.
Jim Florentine mentioned briefly some current theme he has going w/ Robin but he didn't harp on it at all.
In all I'd grade them :
Shuley ( D- )
Richard Christy ( A, and that's an A based on the other acts not " timeless " humor by any means ).
Sal ( B+ )
Yucko ( D )
Jim Florentine ( C+ )
Bob Levy ( B-, he'd have been higher until he did his corny " signature " thing )
Iron Sheik ( B, no comedy other than him yelling back at some booing fans )
Beetle Juice ( C, seen all that before )
I'd say worth the $30 ticket.
