Govt wants wounded soldiers to give back portions of their signing bonuses, because they cannot fulfill their duty....I know this is probably a long standing policy, BUT Bushy could stop it, too bad he wont.

Fixed, yes we neglect the people who protect us, be it soldiers, police, border patrol, prison guards, or fireman.

WE spend 2TRILLION dollars on a war, but are asking for soldiers to pay back bonuses??

This is how you get it fixed:

KDKA contacted Congressman Jason Altmire on his behalf. He says he has proposed a bill that would guarantee soldiers receive full benefit of bonuses.

I'm pretty sure this is going to pass almost unanimously... unless some dickhead Representative tacks on a stupid rider to the bill.

"Wait a second, I'd like to attach a rider to that bill. 30 million dollars of taxpayer money to support the perverted arts."

that's odd. my cousin just got back from iraq. two of his friends lost limbs. they are now financially set for life.
quite a discrepancy. the liberal media will do anything to generate anger.

Whats wrong with them and their facts?! Why can't they just do what they're told and stop thinking about things?

But seriously, just because you know someone that this didn't happen to doesn't prove that this doesn't happen at all. And we should all care every time a veteran is mistreated.

Except when they're liberal.

That is quite possible, i am not sure, but if they are covered under comp, they will get a sizable check for lost limbs, still does not mean the gov't wont ask for 30+% of any signing bonus back...

Vis-a-vis an Executive Order, maybe. But Congress has oversight and funds the military so they would more likely have to pass legislation to make it so.

Yeah, because they'll get DISABILITY payments due to their injuries. That has nothing to do with signing bonuses.

I think this was enacted before Afghanistan and Iraq when people took the signing bonuses but didn't fulfill their commitment they had to give back a pro-rated part. Seems fair.

But now with the war things are different. They'll have to pass a new law to say if a soldier can't fulfill the commitment due to injury, they don't have to give back the bonus. But then they'll have to pass a separate law for the injured who already gave their money back. Then they'll have to appropriate money for the refund.

But then some anti-war Senator or Congress asshole might hold the bills up in committee "unless all the valiant soldiers are brought home immediately". And then it'll go nowhere until "after the election". And they'll blame Bush. And those injured soldiers will have to give their money back. And Ted Kennedy & Chuck Schumer will hold a press conference saying "it's a shame Bush is playing politics with the brave men and women of our armed forces".

i could understand getting bonuses back from guys or girls who go awol

but soldiers who lost body parts defending his country shouldnt have to

i mean its not like they dont want to fulfill their duty but they just cant depending on where the injuries are

Of course those limbs woulda never been blowed off in the first place had the liberal media not forced the Bush administration to lie us into that war in the first place!

article came out today, that claimed story was bogus, or not standard policy.

Here's a couple. There's plenty of fresh reporting of the original story still going on. Yes, I am aware that these are directly from the military.

This looks like typical damage control. We'll never know if it was initially an innocent mistake or not. Either way, happy to know they're on the right side of this issue and soldiers are able to keep their bonuses.

He might have of gotten additional money that he wasnt entitled too. It happens. Lets say this guy is set to collect $3000 a month. Then for the next 5 months they start paying him $4000 by accident. The gov't will come back and get their money. It happens a in the military sometimes. So before everyone flies off the handle, lets make sure we have all the facts.
