i think i have tongue cancer

i have a white bump underneath my tongue. i have no idea where it came from. it doesnt hurt unless i squeeze it hard. i just discovered it yesterday. should i give it a week or so to heal or should i go to the doctor immediately and call eddie van halen for advice?

Swish some peroxide around your mouth and hold it under your tongue - but DO NOT SWALLOW IT!

The peroxide will help clean the sore and allow it to heal pretty rapidly. The tongue is one of the fastest healing parts of the body.

If it doesn't improve rapidly (a day or so) definitely get it checked by a doctor. The earlier you can start treatment the better, whether it is a "simple" ailment or something more damaging like cancer. Now that you know about it don't wait too long.

He is a Dentist/DMD, isn't he? His opinion would probably be better than a general practitioner/MD since drjoek's area of expertise focuses on the teeth, mouth, jaw, etc.

And douggrasso, my mom had a similar bump. Turned out to be a benign cyst. She had it taken out, even though she didn't have to. Any dentist should be able to tell you what it is, and if necessary take a biopsy in the office.
