$600 sounds great......The first article I read about it last week said Fender was getting the first ones...But now on cnn they say Gibson will have first on Friday....... I will go read your article now
Now if they'd only invent one that could restring itself.
It's the only aspect of guitar playing that I truly despise.

Yea..When i was on the road I would boil my bass strings about twice a week.....I could not afford new ones every week....

The Les Paul Silverburst model is to cost about $2,780 in Japan and $2,499 in the U.S., with self-tuning offered for $900 extra.
Powertune is also listed online for 899 euros, about $600, and Tronical says it can be installed on many different models of electric guitars without leaving a mark.
There is no way I could even consider purchasing the Silverburst, but $600 isn't too bad for the Powertune add-on. Now they just need to make one for the Bass and I will be set.

Fags!
True bass players never change their strings.
Just look at James Jamerson! Never changed his strings....NEVER!
Don't think he boiled them either...you might be on to something there though.

I have a Fender, but always lusted after the Rickenbacker my buddy at school had.
Sadly, it has been a long time since I played - but I have wanted to pick it up again. I was never very good (actually a lot better at Bass Fiddle than Electric), but enjoyed playing a lot.
I always hated tuning and can't believe technology has advanced to the point that the instrument can do it by itself.

Perhaps we need to turn this into the Bass Player thread...
Hey Guys! List all your gear!
Except for the guys that play basses with more than 6 strings...

Since I learned on the Bass Fiddle I am actually more comfortable without frets. I have a hell of a time playing without fret-buzz.

That's nowhere near what 900 euros comes out to. It's more like $1,300.

Same here - makes a nice soup!
Ever busted a string and mended the busted piece off above the nut just to keep practicing? Works in a pinch late night when there are no spares and all the stores are closed.
That tuner thing is ok but I practice quite a bit by flipping across the dial and playing with whatever comes up. Most stations have a different version of A440 so station to station, song to song the tuning is usually somewhat different. Practicing this way has helped develop a good ear.
I guess in the end, the tuner thing would actually be easier but I don't have that kind of coin laying around. I'm strictly in the Ibanez set.

Agreed.....Whereas I can string and tune a guitar, it never looks as clean as when the dope at the store does it.
Try the Elixir strings-----great sound and they last forever due to the small amount of coating. For a coated string, they are the best thing going.

that the only advantage to a floating bridge... both sides lock, so if you break a string, you can unlock it from the top, slide down some more string, and lock it up again.
but floaters suck, especially w/ palm muting.
aint no steenkin palm muting on bass, i tell ya... let those fuckers ring out.
