why cant this guy just get sucked into a black hole already?

he wants "in god we trust" off of money because it violates his first right amendment.
fine. then give me your money.

story (http://www.ktvu.com/news/14769671/detail.html)

same guy that tried to get "under god" pulled from the pledge.

why cant we just leave shit like this alone? it hasnt bothered anybody for ages, now all of a sudden we have beef with it?

i understand forward thinking, but damn... some things should be left as is.
whats next? the flag? maybe florida resembles a penis, and somebody finds that offensive, so we'll just re-do the land to cater to them.

im sure my usual opponents will chime in shortly...

"Under God" was added to the pledge to draw a distinction between us and the godless commies, and as an atheist, I had to stand up and listen to that non-sense everyday in school. It's silly, get rid of it.

I hope someone else can chime in and say something about The Yellow Brick Road and the move away from the gold standard and how "In God We Trust" was another political marketing campaign. I'm no great student of history.

"In God We Trust" was officially made the national "motto" in 1956, pretty much under the same banner as "under God." It had been appearing on various forms of our currency, however, since the Civil War due to movements by various religious figures and groups appealing for it during "our time of crisis." It was officially added to our money in 1908.

And it's a fallacy to say that "this didn't bother people for ages." Teddy Roosevelt himself thought it was something that cheapened the phrase, and pointed to numerous passages in the Bible specifically that forbid the "trvial" use of God's name.

And it is pathetic that in 2007 we still have the equivalent of the Olympus gods etched in so much of our everyday lives and even our American currency, but what are you gonna do? It's ingrained into our society and no one will have the common sense or balls to get rid of it for a long time.

In all seriousness, as far back as 1776 our Founding Fathers had the foresight to not use the name "God" in the Declaration of Independence, referring simply to "Our Creator."

all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights

This was to ensure that everyone understood the government was not the ultimate force in the land and to limit their power.

Too bad most people seem to have forgotten this.

That's not what I said. I said the Founding Fathers were careful not to use "God" but merely "our Creator."

They were saying we are born with certain rights, they're not granted to us by a government.

People are far too willing to have their government tell them what they can and can't have.

That is all.

Nothing religious, I assure you.

I wasn't taking issue with it being religious, just that I had no idea what you were saying.

Of course, the larger issue is that we hae no "rights" unless they are spelled out to us by some kind of legislative body. Otherwise our "rights" amount to breathing, pooping and/or peeing.

God doesn't belong in the Presidential Oath of Office either. George Washington added it during his First Inaugural and it has been used ever since out of respect to him.

I say replace "In God We Trust" with "No Fat Chicks".
