View Full Version : I am my own worst enemy

Probably the understatement of the year but still...
The most recent "episode" of my craziness started just 1 hour ago.
There is a dispatcher bid that just opened up on Long Island in my company to all agents in the local.
It has something I have been waiting for for years now.
I should just bid on it without any worries and maybe I will get it and maybe I wont. I shouldn't even think twice about it....but this is me we are talking about, nothing is that simple.
In the hour that I have known about this so many different worries and thoughts have gone through my head...
It will be so much more money
My life will finally come in order
Where will I live until I get a place out there?
I shouldnt even be thinking that far ahead because I dont even know if I will be getting the job.
I wonder if the routes will be easy to learn
I wonder if I will like the people who work there
I really will miss who I work with now
What if i dont get it? What will I do? I will be devistated and I will need to come up with another way of finding a new job to make more money.
How do I get a New York driver's license?
Should I stay in a hotel until I can find an apartment or will that be too much money?
NO I can't think about what ifs until I know I actually won the bid or not.
It is good to plan things out...but I don't want to get my hopes up only to be disappointed.
AND SO ON!
Why can't I just live and not worry and if it happens, great, but if it doesn't then I just will need to figure out the next step. No not in my mind. Everything is a worry.
I suck

Don't worry Amy. Just go for it. Things always work out in the end.

Amy,
Take a deep breath and then put your hat in the ring. Then forgot about it until you hear one way or the other. And if you get the job don't worry, everything will work itself out.

It's not wrong to reason things out in your head, don't beat yourself up for that. It's not overly responsible of you to consider where your next rent payment will come from or how your commute will be, these important factors in selecting a good job.
I don't know anything about your situation so I have no advice for you, but it's a lot easier to say to yourself "I should take chances more and live life by the seat of my pants" than it is to do it. There's all sorts of things to consider.
Go for it. The worst thing that can happen is you don't get the job. No big deal, right? But...the best thing that can happen is that you DO get the job, which would completely put all your self-doubts to shame.
Good luck!

Hello,
Any time you make a big decision in life, you always think about it a lot. That is normal. You’re taking a chance, your going for something that is very important to you. You should think it through. Any time there is change in life it is unknown or unsettling. Just don't let it set you back, think about it, make a decision and follow through. Either way if you win or lose at least you tried. Especially with your job or any employment, it is not the end all and there will be other chances.
A while back I went for a supervisor job with my job, I worry and 2nd guessed myself, but I needed the money, I go for the job and got it. At first I was miserable; the pay is not worth the head aches. But that was 4 years ago, now the pay still sucks and I get some headaches but the problems that cause the headaches I can deal with and can work around them.
Good luck!

Trust me you always will question those things when you are making a huge move in your career and life. I thought the same things when i decided to leave Maryland behind for work in Indianapolis - I left a great job with good friends and moved from the only place i know to a place where i knew nobody
Its a hard battle to win when you will question yourself that is why always ask for help from friends and family who have a fresher perspective on what is there for you

It completely makes sense that you're thinking about what to do if you do get it.
But it should not stop you from applying. It's a terrible thing to be afraid of change (believe me I know) and the best hing you can do it just do it.
You won't have to worry about the rest of the stuff until you find out. Just take things one day at a time and things will work out.
If this is what you've been waiting for, just remember the way you felt when you fist started thinking about it and decide whether you wanted it enough then.
I think you did.
I also have the habit of really wanting something to happen to me and when it finally does, I start thinking of reasons I shouldn't do it, or take advantage of it.
I hope you take the chance Amy, You deserve it!

Wow, Amy - you sound like you're in my head!!!
Change is always hard...even really positive changes. There's going to be logistics involved and you'll deal with them one at a time. You can't eat an elephant in just one bite! (hack wink and nudge). Take a breath and realize that you are smart and more than capable of figuring this shit out as it comes along. If it's really time to make a change at work - then you know it deep down...to thine own self be true. And best of luck to you! I'm sure it will work out for you!

Good job, Amy. I think this is what you want. If you get it, great. If not, no harm in trying and you wait for the next one.
If you do get the job, bag o' pizza is on you!!

Good luck Amy!!!!!!!
Whether or not you get it, you'll at least now that you more ready for change than you were before.
When the next chance rolls around, it'll be an easier decision. Still very hard...but easier.

We're all pulling for you Amy...go get 'em!
Change can be intimidating, but sometimes it's just what you need to pull yourself out of a rut. Take it as it comes and I hope everything works out for the best.

Very well put Gvac.
IMO, it is better to try and fail than to never have tried and always wonder what could have been. (poetic, huh)
It may seem scary and "big" but there really isn't a down side to trying for the position. If you get it, you finally get to do something you always wanted and will get to start a new adventure. If you don't get it, you aren't any worse off than you are now.
Take it from someone who knows; don't second guess yourself and let the opportunity pass. You will likely regret it.
EDIT: And if it didn't come through clearly - GOOD LUCK!!!

so I am pretty impatient
and now what I am hearing 8 people have bid on the shift and it doesn't go by seniority. they will actually be looking at our attendance, we will have to do a test, and we will be interviewed. I am not to sure on when I will hear from somebody about setting all of this up but I am pretty freaked out.
I really really really need this.

Yeah it may take longer than I first thought.
I have been practicing my "why I am better than all the others" answer in the shower. You know they always ask that in an interview.

Why would they even bother to ask YOU that??? Your superiority is quite evident...tell them they're crazy to even ASK then laugh at them and say, "next question?" If they INSIST on knowing why you're better than all the others...show 'em yer boobs!!! I've gotten MORE jobs that way....showing Amy's boobs, I mean.

Yeah, I haven't heard anything. Reeph heard that a very qualified person also went for it and they have more seniority than me so he will probably be getting it. I have already given up on the slightest hope that I would even be considered.
