the building next to mine just went up in flames about 9:30. everybody made it out ok, but that was wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to fucking close for comfort. i'll post pix when i get them.
at no point where we in danger due to lack of wind, wet weather, and distance (maybe 150 feet), just the thought of it all is mind blowing.
its like, 9:30, and i hear all the sirens.. im thinking, wow, something good is going on.
...then i hear the panic of somebody screaming "fire...fire... get out of the building"
my heart and mind went nuts... i ran outside, and saw the flames. i ran back inside, told my wife, and ran back outside to go help get the one elderly lady that we all know out. but somebody was already pulling her out of her unit, so i knew she was ok.
what a fucking nite. as i am typing, i am still shaking from it all, and from being out in the cold.

I hate it when fires happen near Christmas. That sucks for the residents.

Damn. This thread reminded me of something. About 16 years ago, my wife and I were headed home about a week before Christmas. As we got closer to our apartment building, we saw lots of fire trucks. When we were two blocks away, we found that all but one route to my building was blocked. Oh, shit. It looked like our building was on fire!
When we managed to get closer, we saw that it was actually the big house right across the street. The whole building was on fire. The weirdest thing... There was one window at the top floor, that wasn't burning yet. Positioned at that window, was a life sized Santa, looking out over the street. It was pretty surreal, and very sad for the family.

I remember seeing an apartment across the street from me go completely up in flames a couple years ago. Flames out the windows. I ended up calling 911, cuz apparently no one else noticed. Definitely shook me up for a few minutes.

There was a fire in the apartment across the hall from me last year, and holy shit is that scary. Everybody made out ok, but there was some serious damage, and most of it was from smoke.
Everybody: review your insurance and back up your files, especially if you live in an apartment. My friend on the 6th floor suffered over $10,000 in smoke damage, even though the fire was on the 3rd floor. Clothes, furniture, electronics, computers, smoke fucks it all up.
Then yesterday my wife and I were walking to the subway, and the last block is a slight uphill. There was an old duffer - in his seventies - walking towards us with a cane and when we were about 10 feet apart he caught his toe on a crack in the sidewalk and fell face first. He had no chance to catch himself with his feet and he literally landed on his face, busted his cheek wide open. The ring finger on his right hand was at a right angle, and he broke is left arm. He was conscious and lucid, and we called an ambulance and took care of him until they came.
Fuck, it shakes you up when something like that happens to someone right in front of you. I don't know how to describe the feeling. Not a revulsion, more an empathetic response, but more powerful, like a chill. You keep your head and help the person, but you feel ...I don't know, maybe it's fear. Does anyone else know what I'm talking about?

Damn it!.
I was so hoping this thread was going to be about how your wife wants to have a threesome with you and her friend, but then it doesn't happen, but maybe it will, but no it really doesn't , but your not going to tell us about it if it does, which it doesn't.....ever, at which point the thread goes right off the rails into stupidity and bitching.
I wish I could read a thread like that somewhere.........
