Why do they talk about sports? They know less about sports than O&A and it is more painful to listen to.

Why is it that O&A and The Hideout talk about sports when they clearly dont care about sports enough to know anything about it? They would not talk about country music.

Maybe cause they like to talk about sports, and since it's their show, they talk about what they like

I think that they give a shit about sports at the same level as any average guy does. They are not hardcore, but have sufficient knowledge to wet the appetite for any sportsfan. The non-sportsfans on the other hand don't have to deal with a lengthy, in depth sports conversation. Its a good balance. I do believe that they care a little about sports or yes, they wouldn't talk about it. Its kind of like water cooler talk.

jdubbs at one point said Petrino had running quarterbacks all in college running his offense.

I really do not think the average sports fan wants to hear guys (O&A and Hideout) talk about a subject they have less knowledge on. There is a reason Ron stops himself on certian things and says, "I dont know all the facts about it so I wont..."

I am not saying they don't have the right to, but as a quality radio show that is trying to get a better gig then the set up they have know shouldnt they worry about doing the best possible show?

maybe they do it to get a reaction from people? to get people talking about their show? no, that can't be it.

OnA have not always dont shit like that. I am not sure if you listen to O&A or the Hideout on a regular basis.
O&A are desperate to keep their regular radio gig and are doing anything to keep it (Morning Zoo bits, giving away money during the 7-8 right after their poor book, and now spending entire breaks talking about New York Sports in an effort to get callers).

Hideout is a great show and I have a feeling that I listen to it more than everyone else, except schnitt, here. The idea of Next came out of not being able to do the Hideout anymore on regular radio and to get a gig. It almost and should of worked in NYC but the Imus thing happened. If they are trying their hardest to get back a steady good job in radio I dont know why they are so blatantly not (with he sports talk) playing to their strengths

Oh ya you were the guy that after they got to do a show on XM that you wanted to push them out of the way so you, with no radio experience, could have your podcast on the air.

This is what make R&F great (O and A too). They will call themselves out when they are uninformed. It is possible that they would rather do a show to an audience that they can relate to more, rather than please a mass audience and be watered down. I'm sure that they would do a fantastic job in whatever avenue they choose to be in. They appeal to me because they talk about what they want to. Whether it be slated or not.

But I think the two shows are talking sports to get the mass appeal but in reality it is doing the opposite.

I wouldn't go as far as to say they know less about sports then O&A. Opie knows alittle sports, but Anthony knows nothing about sports. Ronnie B. knows more then the average joe about sports and Fez is a football fan. Dave and Earl are pretty knowledgable about sports. I'm a hardcore sports fan who listens to alot of sports talk, and I enjoy when Ron and Fez talk sports.

If you don't like it, switch to XM 140 or 142 and hear some real sports talk for 10 or 15 minutes and switch back.

the only "sport" I cringe at when most of the shows I listen to talk about it is NASCAR. Most of the time, they know nothing about it and are guessing as to which is what.....

other than that, I enjoy "talkin da sports.....WOOOOOOOSHHHHH"

Why do they talk about sports?.

Because like all good company puppets, they do what the suits tell them to do.
They sold out their art to be accepted by the masses and make more money.

It's all about compromise. I guess if you are going to play ball in the majors, you have to sacrafice your "art" sometimes and surrender to the fact that someone else will be controling what you say on the air.

No different than when a musical artist signs with a major label.

In arguments, compromise is a concept of finding agreement through communication, through a mutual acceptance of terms—often involving variations from an original goal or desire. Extremism is often considered as antonym to compromise, which, depending on context, may be associated with concepts of balance, tolerance. In the negative connotation, compromise may be referred to as capitulation, referring to a "surrender" of objectives, principles, or materiale, in the process of negotiating an agreement.

You might wanna go back and have another listen to the old DC Hideout shows. Especially the ones during football or basketball season where you could regularly hear Jefe bitch about the Mavericks or everybody making fun of Dubs and the Lions. Maybe the 2 years of fantasy football leagues and the helmet of pain might ring a bell. All those sports related tattoos on Dubs might also bring back a memory or two. Nah... you're probably right. Sports has never been part of the show and shouldn't be added today just to appeal to new listeners.
