FYI for those not aware that voice of the narrator is also Jean Shepherd himself, authour of the story: "'Duel in the Snow' or 'Red Ryder Nails the Cleaveland Street Kid'" which first appeared in short story form in Playboy magazine.

The story and others by Shep morphed into the movie 'A Christmas Story'. Shepherd appears quickly as the bearded guy telling the kid where the back of the line to see Santa is.

About 10 years ago I was walking through the mall doing some Christmas shopping and a new sports store was having a grand opening. Smokin' Joe Frazier was there signing autographs and people were lined up. I got on line because I just wanted to meet him and shake his hand.

I was informed I had to buy a picture for $20 and he would sign it for free. I did buy it, but only because I wanted to meet him.

It's the only autograph I ever got for myself.

It's buried in a box in my attic somewhere.

the redskinds used to have training camp in my hometown...everyone would go through the line and sign in the morning...but if you even approached Darrel Green he would literally run from you and scale the fence into the stadium...became the goal of my summer to get that mother fuckers autograph

when i was about 11 or 12 i mailed a card to brett hull and a letter saying how i thought he was awesome and all that but i didn't send a SASE with it, i was young and stupid i guess. about 6 months later i get a letter in the mail and it was the card i sent to brett hull. he signed it and even filled out the envelope and put a stamp on it and sent it back. to this day i still think hes a great guy for doing that.

and i met gerry cheevers at the local horse track, looking like a scruffy old bum and i had him sign a losing stub for me. thats my best one.

Topher Grace grew up in my town and comes back regularly to see his parents and what not. so, this summer he was at some fair the town was having and this woman that ran the kid center asked him for an autograph so more kids would come to the center and said, "No thanks, I dont want to." :glurps:
