One person killed, two injured by escaped tiger in the San Francisco Zoo. (http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=4050794)
It's unclear, at this point, whether the victim was a visitor or zoo worker.

They said on the news that the tiger went into a cafe on the zoo grounds, and attacked the customers.

On the fourth day of christmas, my true love gave to me,
Four escaping tigers,
Three brought under control,
Two injured people,
and a dead person at the zoo.
BTW, Papabear hit this one out of the park. Hilarious.

Other zoo animals have attacked, escaped in recent years (http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/12/26/maulings.list.ap/index.html)
The most terrifing on that list:
August 7, 2002: A catwalk over a shark tank collapses at New Orleans' Aquarium of the Americas, throwing 10 visitors into the water. The 10, including four children, thrash around in terror for up to 15 minutes with the sharks swimming beneath their kicking feet before being pulled out. No one is seriously hurt.
15 minutes of sharks swimming beneath you?! FUCK THAT. That water would be brown.

We were at the SF zoo a few years ago, and I got scared at that tiger "enclosure". There's kind of a raised area where they hang out, then it drops down into the "moat", and after that it's just a low fence seperating the walkway. The raised area was almost at the same level as the walkway, and I remember picturing an angry tiger jumping the moat. It didn't seem that hard to do. Maybe I should have said somethin'.

I love zoos as much as the next guy, but maybe its time we consider shutting zoos down for good, or at least return the violent species to their natural habitats. I mean, in this day and age with the internet and the streaming video, do we really need to have Tigers in the Bronx and San Francisco?
They're not supposed to be here. They don't want to be here. They wanna roam for miles, not circle in a shitty little diorama representation of their habitat.

I live within 5 miles of the now defunct TerryLoo zoo in NJ. It was voted one of the 10 worst zoo's in the US. I remember going there about ten years ago seeing a Gorilla in an 8'x8' cage beating it's head against the wall. A sad sight to see.

Only zoo I've ever been to is the National Zoo in DC. They had a gorilla that would flip people off. I thought it was just a fluke when she did it to me, but I've talked to many others, who have had it happen to them, too.

I worked at the Staten Island Zoo over the summer with the ponies. On several different occasions the ponies had broken out of their enclosure and were running around the zoo amonst the visitors. Zoos are just a flat out fucking bad idea, more people get hurt visiting the Zoo than you would think. The animals are all fat and depressed, it's unatural.
At my Zoo the oldest pony was 44 years old and had the temperment of a cranky old man, everytime i took him out for rides I could swear he was saying to himself "I'm too old for this shit ". If a 150 pound five year old came asking for a pony ride, they were allowed to get right on the these poor tired old ponies backs and kick and pull as much hair as they wanted while their ignoramus mothers would be pissing themselves over trying to get the right angle for picture of their precious obese angel's first pony ride.
Fuck Zoos, and fuck bad parents, good for the tigers. I hope all of their victims had at one point during that day thrown circus peanuts at them.

i went there a few years ago and it was such a disappointment. that zoo was so tiny and boring.
and streaming video is not nearly the same thing. yes, we need tigers in the bronx and san diego for the kids sakes.

I agree that animals should be left to their natural habitats, but the animals that were born in the zoos most likely wouldn't make it there as they've been spoiled. An elephant that was fed by a trainer its whole life would be more likely to just walk up to a poacher. There is the other problem, there are some species that on the verge on extinction, and zoos would be their only refuge. If the animals are taken care of properly, then maybe zoos aren't such a bad thing.

I say we keep zoos and just put a disclaimer on the ticket, kinda like how they have on the back of hockey and baseball tickets about pucks and balls flying.
Plus usually, when there is a zoo attack, its because some idiot taunted the thing or reached in the cage or climbed into the Habitat. Good
Tigers eat living things. If you are a living thing and got too close to a tiger, you fucked up

Victims may have dangled leg over tiger's moat, says report (http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/12/27/tiger.attack/index.html)
A shoe and blood were found between the fence and the moat, the Chronicle reported, and a footprint has been found on a metal fence at the zoo. The investigation is looking into the possibility that the tiger escaped by latching on to a leg or other body part, the paper reported.
"Somebody created a situation that really agitated [the tiger] and and gave her some method to break her out," zoo director Manuel Mollinedo told the Chronicle. "A couple of feet dangling over the edge could possibly have done it."
From what I've heard and read from animal experts, it is extremely unlikely that the tiger could have made the jump over the moat.
But what if it comes out that a leg was dangled, there was taunting, and this tiger thought "That's IT" and leaped, and grabed on that kid's leg, pulling itself up. That would a feat of anger and strength. There's gotta be some security footage.

He totally deserved it if he was dangling his leg over the wall. What an idiot. It's like at those gator farms in FL where you can feed the gators fish and there is a big sign "DO NOT DANGLE ARM OVER WALL"
