12 Angry Men, what a fucking fantastic movie. Has The Ox-bow Incident ever been deemed "culturally significant? Perhaps Henry Fonda should just be preserved by the National Registry.

They should have preserved him in carbonite....If they hurry, they can still do it to Peter Fonda.

on a serious note, Henry Fonda was previously represented by The Grapes of Wrath and The Lady Eve.

How cool would it be to have a movie that has no advertisements on the content of said movie?

Explanation:

The movie(s) will be only advertised as a catagory - Action, horror, drama, scifi, etc.
And you would go to see the movie without even knowing what in the hell it is about - only the catagory. You could incorporate the indie, underground, and even smaller budget pics.
Only word of mouth would generate interest and determine if the run of the movie is long or acclaimed. I envision going to a theatre and seeing the horror movie of the week or month or whatever without knowing a thing about it. Oh the excitement - and of course the often letdowns.
I could see Tarantino doing something like this. Seeing Death Proof made me think of this idea.

I am soooo tired of seeing a commercial for a movie and they show the highlights of the whole fuckin thing. No need to go if you arent interested - but this "blind movie" idea would be cool to see what you end up with.

I am really stoned right now and I think that this is a great idea - but maybe I am just fooling myself thanks to the THC.

Your opinion?

I like the idea, but I don't know if you could get enough of a crowd willing to take that chance. Sounds good to me, any way I can gamble, I'm for it

Bullitt...fantastic movie. First one I saw with a car chase scene that was actually thought out and choreographed.

It put the Dukes of Hazzard to shame in my eyes. I never looked at the General Lee the same way ever since.

If you liked Henry Fonda's performance in 12 Angry Men, have any of you checked out Failsafe he did with Larry Hagman who co-starred as his interpreter when talking to the Russian Premier on the phone.

Great Drama.

I'm really surprised a lot of these are just added now.

Did anyone else see the new Criterion release of Days of Heaven? Amazing. I really hope they get to put out new versions of all of Malick's films.

Again? They did a made for TV version about 10 years ago that was pretty good. Jack Lemmon played the Hank Fonda part and George C. Scott played the Leo Cobb part. It also featured a young James Gandolfini.

Oh if any of you were wondering about "The Sex Life of the Polyp" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0019367/plotsummary), it is on IMDB:

Dr. Benchley is addressing the Ladies Club on the subject of the reproductive habits of the polyp, a small aquatic organism. Although he is not able to display his live specimens, he has prepared a series of pictures of his subjects. He explains that the subject is made more complicated by the fact that polyps are able to change their sex from time to time. Then he presents some of the pictures of his specimens and the experiments that he has done with them

Riveting stuff.

It is not. It was on showtime and was amazing. It featured Gandolfini, Tony Danza (Perfect for his part), Edward Jay Olmos, William Peterson, George C Scott and of course Jack Lemmon which was made famous when Ving Rhames gave his Golden Globe to him after winning it for Only in America.

only 450 movies from 1986 to 2006? thats kind of weak. Actually makes me feel sick.

Don't get me wrong, not every film should be registered. But they only have one of the "Road to. . ." Movies? Why do I feel that this could be just as bad as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Kinda grew up with them thanks to the taste in film that ran through my family. Would have ather seen Road to Singapore or Road to Zanzibar on the list. Morraco, imo, was one of the weakest ones in the series next to Road to Bali.

But I digress. . .

Would have liked to see Tora! Tora! Tora! on the list along with Houdini (1953).

I probably need to be schooled on the Road pictures since it's been a long while since i've seen any of them.
From last to first it was
Road to Hong Kong
" Bali
" Rio
" Utopia
" Morroco
" Zanzibar
" Singapore.

Since Singapore was first it's gotta be the best.

Since Singapore was first it's gotta be the best.

It was Hope and Crosby after all, back in 1940 none the less. Back when the studio system was in full swing, and Paramount held the francise. But come 1961/1962 Melnor Films got the licence and released Road to Hong Kong with United Artists. Unfortunately, because of that I completely forgot about RTHK. It is my least favorte of the Road to films with Morraco in a close second.

Well, thank you. For a fella my age, I know way to much. My father and I used to grill each other with movie trivial using nothing more than the Leonard Maltin's Movie Guide Book. And while I would normally take the crown of King of the Road. There are many way better than I, for I am just a humble film nerd whose dabbled in televised criticism.

I totally tried to count how many of the films I've actually seen . . . and realized I've got a ton of silents under my belt. It's mostly my dad's fault. . . he introduced me to a love of broad slapstick and stuntman ballet via Buster Keaton when I was a kid.

There are some films that I wouldn't save in any way, shape or form (2001:A Space Odyssey being one example...I had to watch it high in order to tolerate it) but I do understand why they've been registered.

Too bad they've not expanded to include Fritz Lang's Metropolis . . . THAT is a great flick, but I suppose it counts as a "foreign film," doesn't it? I was pretty young when I saw it . . . Dad is a Superman fan, so when he learned that Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster named "Metropolis" for this movie because they enjoyed it so much, he HAD to see it!
