I have come to form a loathesome relationship with Sprint/Nextel. I have been a customer for maybe 4 or 5 years now and finally just cant take this shit.

Over the summer i signed a new 2 year contract and got a new phone(which already has problem) and had to downgrade my plan a lot because i was paying so much for bells and whistles i never used.

I want a new company a new plan and a new phone but after checking Verizon is seems like the cheapest rate im gonna get there is 40 dollars a month, which i am not thrilled about paying because it's so high.

Does anyone have other services that they could recommend or that good experiences have been had?

Dude!

$40 a month is about the cheapest you can get for any decent plan
if you consider $40 expensive, you need to get a better job, not a cheaper plan

Yes, i need to get a better job other than going to school and working part time.

Sorry boss, i have more important bills to pay than a cell phone and when i pay $40 a month i expect outstanding service and options that work for me. Not needless access to the internet on my phone that is virtually useless and shitt ass customer service and phone quality itself.

I've had T-mobile for about 6 years now, and I like them pretty well. Looks like their cheapest plan is $30/mo. You might want to look into pre-paid phones if you don't use a ton of minutes or text a lot. Won't you have to pay a early termination fee to Sprint since you signed the new two-year contract though?

Nextel was very good before Sprint bought them out. Since then, my service declined a lot. I never used to have dropped calls and very few dead spots, now I get both all the time. I also pay for internet service I never use on my phone.

I'll buy one of those fancy new phones (Blackberry pearl, Treo, etc) in a few months and I'm going with Verizon next time. Who I hear is good.

I had Sprint for 7 years and switched to T-Mobile. I now have T-Mobile for 3 years and love it. You get most for your money, the sim card is the best invention. When you want to switch to a new phone you just remove it and put it in the new phone. All your #'s are installed and you dont need to call the company to switch service to the new phone or pay $35 to do the switch.

1000 minutes w/ free nights and weekend is $39 so that should be perfect for you.

it seems these technology companies are bending the public over more and more and they mostly can because they have you by the balls or pussylips

i have two legit Microsoft OS's so I called for a little support one day and they wanted 79 dollars if they fixed my problem. they are making people do their own troubleshooting/investigation/fixing by going to message boards. this is where i have a problem with Bill Gates being a billionaire and i don't give a fuck how much money he gives to charity

if any Corp tells you Customer Service Is #1 tell them " go shit in your hat motherfucker "

Verizon doesn't charge a thing to switch phones.
You can do it right on-line and your address book is backed up right on their server for free.
When you get a new phone you just download all the info into it. No charge for any of this.

Verizon does charge if your phone plan is less than $100.00 & it costs $1.99 p/m for the back up phone book. I know this cause I just switched my phones around & they told me you are very lucky your plan is over $100.00 cause it would cost $20.00 per line if it was not.

Always the most cost-effective. Pay for calls you make. Here's my recommendation:

http://graphics.samsclub.com/images/products/0040614139059_LG.jpg

But seriously, Sprint/Nextel is the worst carrier I've had and I've used Verizon (currently still using) Sprint/Nextel, and AT&T.

I like the SIM card phones, but I like the CDMA technology better. The calls are clearer on CDMA.

I switched from Verizon to AT&T years ago because I was treated like shit every time I went to the Verizon store. Then, Cingular became the carrier and they sucked as much as Verizon. Now, AT&T are back in control and it is really Russian roulet when you walk into an AT&T store what level of intelligence you'll get as far as help from a salesmen.
I recommend you look for a geeky looking guy, and certainly not an attractive one!
If your on LI, go to the one on Jericho Tpke in Woodbury (on the north side of Jericho), and not the one on the south side... (shudder)

Which one is it? One of those Samsung phones? My Chocolate is starting to get goofy. The "touch pad" is crapping out on me. It either doesn't work at all or will start dialing the last call I made or recieved when I take it out of my pocket.

I'm probably going to replace it. I've had Motorolas and loved them. Anything else out there that is for Verizon and you like a lot?

Edit: asking snoogans, didn't post in time and sr71blackbird is between us.

Not true.

If you maintain your account on-line they waive the $1.99 subscription fee.
If you don't maintain your account on-line, well, that's just stupid.

whats the difference between sim and SD cards. Cant you save all your shit on SD?

A sim card stores all of your account information, and it can store your contacts as well. So, when you get a new phone, you can just take your sim card out of the old one and put it in the new one. You don't have to call anyone to switch over. Also, you don't have to buy a phone from your phone company if you don't want to. You can buy an unlocked phone and use it. I think only AT&T and T-mobile use sim cards right now. I could be wrong though.

I think a SD card can only store numbers and mp3's and stuff. You can't use it to move your actual account information from one phone to another so that you can actually use it to make and receive calls.

I transfer numbers via backup assistant.
It's an application that stores all of your contacts on-line.
It's a free service that Verizon provides as long as you maintain your account on-line.
If you don't maintain your account on-line then it's $1.99 a month or
they charge you $10 to transfer your numbers from one phone to another.

I use it all the time.
You can go right on-line and add/delete or edit your contacts.
When you are done editing you just send the edited contact list to your phone.
If I add a number to my phone it syncs up with the on-line list automatically.

Years ago, before they had backup assistant, I had to transfer the numbers
from one phone to another and it was $10. There was no way out of it at that time.
Now that there's so much competition out there I think they would waive that fee if
I had to do it the old fashioned way, but I use the backup assistant so I don't need to worry about that.

Here's something I was wondering.

I have a Blackberry and a Nextel plan with a ton of minutes PLUS internet service (which I never use) and pay about $175 a month.

If I was to keep the internet service and cancel/minimize the phone minutes, couldn't I use Skype or one of those online websites to get unlimited phone service via my phone's internet connection? Anyone ever do anything like this? Internet costs about $25 a month on the Blackberry, so with that and little else I should be able to keep the bill under $50 total. That would save me about $1500 next year if its do able.

Verizon I think is the only company that does not have a sim card it is a little white card that goes behind the battery that stores all the phones info like the phones # & anything else you have on your phone making it easier to switch phones. The SD card stores all your music, video & pictures if you switch phones. See the difference?

It's possible to do this, but it really depends on if your internet speed can support it. Some networks can't support it, you can also try it when you have a wi-fi signal if you have a wi-fi card in your phone. Try a program called Fring (free voip for mobiles, compatible with Skype, google talk, and some others).

the difference between the SIM card and an SD card is the SIM card actually holds all your account information and your telephone number whereas an SD card is just the same as any ole memory card that you can get anywhere. The sim card you can take out of the phone and put into another phone right away without doing anything else and that phone will now have your phone number and all your account information as well. Whereas an SD card you cannot switch phones just by that you need Verizon to activate the phone.

I've never had a problem with Verizon, and Verizon's coverage in NJ is very, VERY good (it should be, considering they are headquartered near Bridgewater).

You should also investigate if your company and/or school offers Verizon discounts.

AT&T is headquartered in Bedminster and their coverage sucks in parts of NJ. Verizon sucks in Bedminster area as well.

T-Mobile has a huge office in Parsippany as well ,and their service is less then desirable in certain areas as well.

Nevertheless I have found Verizon service to be the best in NJ and in the US in general.

The huge advantage of SIM card technology (used by AT&T and T-Mobile) is that it's the standard the world over so there's a larger choice of phones and they're available sooner. Also, you can keep and use your old phones without having to re-activate them if need be. Since most of the rest of the world uses SIMs, you can 'unlock' your phone and use a pre-paid SIM in Europe if you're travelling abroad and not incur hideous charges for using your phone overseas.

I was an AT&T/Cingular/AT&T customer for 6 years but recently switched to T-Mobile. I've never had a problem coverage wise with either.

i've been with AT&T since the late 90's. never had much of problem. soon after they became Cingular, my phone broke and i got scammed into a new contract 'in order to become part of the cingular network'. i was kinda pissed at that, having been a customer for so long. at any rate, that contract is up, and i'm still a pretty happy customer.

i've never had any problems with getting a signal and never drop any calls.

plus, i have family in Ireland that i visit every year or so and i can connect to Vodaphone in Ireland with hardly any extra fees (10-cents-a-call surcharge or something small like that).

the one thing i wish i could do is convert my roll-over minutes into a few free months of service, since i don't use my phone all that much, but they don't allow that.

Yes, I have to agree that it is a great feature.

As great as SIM cards are they don't do you any good if you lose or destroy the entire phone.
By having all your contacts backed up on-line there is virtually no fear of ever losing your contact list.
I don't know about other people, but I have over 200 numbers in my phone. If I ever lost it I would be screwed.
The only back up that I have is the on-line back up that Verizon has on their server.

I'm not sure if any of the other company's provide anything like this.
I've had Verizon since before they were even Verizon.
