If you had to choose, who would you rather have in your neighborhood? A guy that routinely is a menace in a car, or a kid toucher/convicted adult rapist?

the d/d... more chances of him off'n himself by hitting a wall or pole than a kid toucher.

besides. if he went near my kid, i'd end up in jail. nobody wants that.

both, with any luck the DD would run over the KT

KT dead, DD in prison, safe neighborhood

I'll just have to go with the statistics on this one. You're way more likely to have a car accident than have an incident with a kid toucher. So just call my neighborhood "Kid touchers-ville" from now on.

Plus I'll just tell the kid to stop dressing so damn sexy. If he insists on prancing around the neighborhood in that sailor's outfit, he only has himself to blame.

Drunk Driver...hands down.

A Kid Toucher is a Kid Toucher 24/7, but a drunk driver only lasts an hour or so max.

Plus, I'm sure the Drunk Drivers a fun guy to hang out with for the first part of the evening.

Ewwwe!

But seriously folks...

I'd take the drunk driver. There can be actions taken against him; you could slash tires, bust tailights or remove license plates. Both would attract police attention. Or you could alert the police to his actions and have them catch him in the act.

It's a lot tougher dealing with a kid toucher, all I can think of would land me in jail.

You have to go with the drunk, you can always disable his car or at the worst call the police on him. Once a kid toucher, always a kid toucher. They never stop thinking about it, friggin creeps.

c'mon sarge, I don't expect you to read every post in a 20 page thread.... but at least get through the top ten.

But I agree.

what's really got my balls in a vice is if you get a drunk driving kid toucher moving in. then what?

But only when you are concentrating on staying between the lines while drunk driving.....RIGHT?

it depends for me, for the kid toucher - would he be in some kind of database and all that? if so, yeah, i wouldnt care as much since i dont have kids. but, if he was unregistered, hunting for little ones, then i have a problem, and i would go with the drunk asshole

i'm shocked with how many are choosing the kid toucher. i would think that's much easier to avoid, if you know it's there.

Yeah, and its been so overhyped by the media that everyone thinks its worse than it is. Its not a growing problem, but for whatever reason its caught the attention of the news and politicians. The reality is 75% of sex offenders never do it again. 90% of sex crimes are committed by someone the child knows, either a family friend or relative. The guy lurking around schoolyards is pretty rare and largely a myth. Most of the guys on those Megan's law lists are level one 17-25 year old guys who get caught with some teenage girl who either lied about her age or they just never bothered to ask her. Some are kids themselves who just pulled some prank. But nowadays they don't call the principal, they call the cops because the victim of the pranks mother spent all night watching the local news. Those Megan's law lists are too broad and don't make these distinctions. So everyone freaks out, but most of the guys on those lists are harmless.

If you're interested here's a WNYC show (http://www.wnyc.org/shows/lopate/episodes/2007/12/20)about it and the related HRW study (http://hrw.org/reports/2007/us0907/)

One thing that bothers me about the whole sex offender lists is the negative result it can have on some areas. Since it's harder for them to find a place to live, they often end up in boarding houses, and boarding houses are often grouped together. We have a 4 square block area in town, that has several boarding houses. I checked the sex offender's list, and there were somewhere between 12 and 17 sex offenders living in that 4 block area. It changes from month to month.

Yeah, thats pretty counter productive too. THere have been reports of incidents where they've been attacked, had homes burned down, etc. For level 1 types who go on to have their own children their kids get bullied and attacked at school. These lists need a lot of work or they should just be scrapped. With any felon, if they have nothing to look forward to and can't assimilate back into society then the recidivism rates skyrocket. If they're forced into small areas then that can become breeding grounds where they all trade notes (if they're the dangerous types).

Must be great for the local real estate market as well.

Wow was that a messy post. Editing quotes is not your specialty. But I got the general idea. I'm not trying to minimize or dismiss the really dangerous ones, they have to be dealt with and society has to be protected from them. I'm just saying those lists include everyone and most of the people who read them don't know the difference. Also, the stuff about 90% of incidents happening by someone close to the family is a fact, check out the HRW study (which cites dept of justice stats) or listen to the WNYC show I linked.

I can teach my kid to avoid the kid toucher and what to do to prevent something horrible from happening. Most things I've learned just by being on this board.

Nothing I can teach will help when the drunk decides my front yard is a freeway off ramp.

In my haste to smartass up this thread a little, I forgot to answer the question at hand.
Drunk Driver, because I'm really good at it........
and there's already one former Wackbag moderator that got in trouble for the other thing- well not exactly..but in the same ballpark.

Some would post "Linger Longer!" at the end of that sentence, but since I can't kick my own teeth in, I won't.

ps....it's not Gonzo, although sometimes we pretend he's Uncle Roy played by Buck Henry, and I'll be the naughty girl played by Laraine Newman.

BDC nailed it...sex offenders are much, much, MUCH less likely to do it again, whereas drunk drivers tend to have a pattern of drinking and driving.

Drunk driver.

Sex offenders have to register and yeah while they may not relapse i am not taking the chance with my child.

OK, you know they are in the neighborhood and where they live and you can tell your children to stay away but would any of you REALLY feel safe with your child playing outside knowing that there is a sexual predator potentially planning something?

Yeah a DD could hit them but is it more likely that one is going to come flooring down the block at 3pm blitzed or at midnight when theyre on the way home from a bar and the kids are safe in the house?

A drunk driver has a much better chance of having kids that my kid plays with. My kid would be much more likely to end up in the car or care of a drunk than a kid toucher.

grlNIN
01-16-2008, 01:41 PM
End up in the car with a DD?

Uh, no.

Unless as a parent you let your kid pick and choose who they want to go in a car with i don't see that as even remotely being a likely situation.

ESPECIALLY if you know the person is a drunk driver.

grlNIN
01-16-2008, 01:42 PM
And why would you let your kids play with kids of someone who is a drunk driver?

Even if you did you wouldn't regulate the social situations to be at school or at your own home?

Well, I took the thread's scenario to mean we wouldn't know who the person was.

My senario: You would only know that the man who is moving in the house across the street would either be a drunk driver or a sex offender.
