I can't wait to try some cupcakes next time I'm in Chicago.

I predict that the Ron Bennington "I've Got My Own Cupcake" will be a best-seller. In fact, it will sell out completely.

My daughter went to Chicago last week to see her godmother and I told her to bring home some Ron Bennington's. She got them home on Saturday evening and I finally got to have one. My brother-in-law went up to Chicago a month ago, and could not get to Molly's so I was quite disappointed then, but the cupcakes did not disappoint. They were probably the finest cupcake I have ever had. So decadently rich. I really enjoyed them. If you can get these cakes brought to you, do it. If you go to Chicago don't miss these. The butterscotch is exactly what is needed to make this cupcake. I hope everyone has a chance to enjoy these gems.

I'll post pics later when I have a moment, but happened to be in Chicago this week. Me and the husband got a whole bunch of cupcakes from Molly's (including the Ron Bennington, of course!) It was delicious! All of them were. We also got the Strawberry Shortcake, Chocolate Covered Strawberry, Campfire, Tiramisu, Pumpkin Spice, and the Chocolate Decadence. And the staff was very friendly.

If anyone's interested, ABC's local chicagOo show 190 North did a 1 minute spot on mollys. You can find it by going to www.190north.com, going to watch 190 N, then selecting "one trick pony places"

its a 3 minute segment, and mollys is reviewed third, after two other places, and the ron bennington is mentioned briefly.

I made my pilgrimage to Molly's before I left Chicago on Monday. I took the 22 bus and it stopped right in front of the shop. It's a really nice little store on a cute street a few miles from downtown, decorated very cheerily. Honestly, just makes you feel happy. Got a chance to meet Mike and talk to him a bit. Very friendly guy, and he genuinely is grateful to Ron and Fez for all the plugs and word of mouth. Plus, he was nice enough to take the time out to talk to me while business swirled around him. Turned out the couple that left when I first got there were also R&F fans, but I didn't realize it until later.

As for the cupcakes, the Bennington is all you've heard and more. Simply an amazing creation. And there were so many other delectable sounding cakes to choose from for my second, but in the end chose the Red Velvet, which was also outstanding. I wanted to take some home with me, but wasn't sure about the TSA restrictions on tasty treats, so I decided to not take the chance.

Oh man. Mike hooked me up with a delicious box of cupcakes to take back on the plane since I could only make it there last minute right before I was leaving Chicago.

Then I had a full flight and the stewardess yelled at me for having the box on my lap during take off and put it in the overhead bin. I ended up with a box of 6 mashed together, yet DELICIOUS cupcakes. If anyone goes, you have to check out whatever the orange one they have now it (I think it's a creamsicle cupcake), that one was the best as I picked it apart from the gigantic cupcake mash I ended up with. Their cookies are super yummy as well.

I was in Chicago for a long weekend, and the wife and I decided when we booked the trip that we had to go to Molly's and get the Ronny B.

This cupcake is just as amazing as the store itself. Everything from the swings at the counter to the awesome wait staff. Here are my pictures of the famous Ronny B

no joke, it was incredible.

We also got the Key Lime cupcake and the Red Velvet. They were "ok". I can't stress enough how good the Ronny B was, but I think it's much for one person. They're not large, just really really rich. I mean, I'm sure one person would have no problem eating one or multiple, just get ready to feel really full

I'm sure they don't even come close to Mollys due to not knowing how much of each stuff to stuff them with.
but any whoooooo they were tasty lil cakes and everyone that had one said holly shit.

I have decided that my Spring trip in May will be to Chicago. Cubs, Molly's, and plenty of drinking will be on the agenda.

Bastards at work are taking a trip to Chicago at the end of the month for a board of directors meeting, but I don't get to go. They are not smart enough to go to Molly's.

So I was driving through Chicago on my way home yesterday and as I exited the freeway, listening to the Thanksgiving show replay, it occured to me I was tantalizingly close to Molly's. I checked the address and Sunday hours and I was golden. So I arrive at Molly's around 10 and it's closed. Holiday hours. :furious:

I stared longingly at the people working inside but there was nothing that could be done. I had to continue on my trip without a Ron Bennington's got his own cupcake (or 4).

I did get a new avatar out of the stop, at least.

We went to Molly's during St. Patrick's weekend and picked up a dozen. We also met Mike, he was really nice. My wife had an oreo cupcake when we got back and about 3 bites in said, "this is the best fucking thing I've ever tasted!" Now she understands why I get my sister in law to bring them every time she comes back.

They should be all "First three people to come in with this message gets 10% off" and other such things, would be real time sales straight to the customers and cause small bumps in traffic to the store every time they do it, because even people who show up after the first three would wind up buying something anyway.

Marketing.

For instance, there's a bakery in CA that tweets whenever fresh things come out of the oven via http://www.bakertweets.com and others will post specials and whatnot theu twitter, like virtual coupons.

I was within a mile of the place on at least two occasions, but never made it in. Granted, neither time was very convenient, but I had 4 fuckin days to do it.

we took a little family vacation to chicago last weekend

friday, we took in a game at wrigley (left before wood's epic fail and cubs heroics, stupid rain delay)

saturday we did lunch at the hanover (94th floor), and had mind-blowing tapas at avec

for father's day, we took a cab up to molly's and indulged a bit: we shared a 'ronnie b', a 'red velvet', and a vanilla/vanilla ... my son ran amock (a little bit) and loved the swing ... then we took another cab and took in a little culture at the art institute

loved taking my son to wrigley, and having great cupcakes for father's day breakfast

Does anyone have a nice picture of a Ron Bennington's Got His Own Cupcake? I want to use it for a background to a show-related tribute page to the great Ronnie B.

Thanks

if you do a google images search, you'll find tons of pics to choose from. :)

THANK YOU SO MUCH GUYS! Mollys made the nomination list for both bakery and dessert (and oddly, buffet, view and vegetarian restaurant too). If you click the above link again you can vote! Already we've jumped from like last place to #7 and #9 today. REALLY appreciate your help. You have to register to vote but if you have a Facebook account you can use your facebook info.

Not to seem like a cynic BUT isnt the point to get people who have been there to vote it as the best bakery and dessert? Asking us to vote because we like the Ron and Fez show or you on the air doesnt seem like playing by the rules.

I voted anyway as a show of support ,never even been to Chicago.

I visited Molly's last weekend.
I tried the RBHHOC cupcake and a peanut butter nutella cupcake.
The RBHHOC was good, I am a chocoholic and it wasn't as spectacular as I hoped.
The peanut butter and nutella cupcake was very good.

The staff had a couple of cute irish girls. My girlfriend said the girl that helped us was gorgeous.
The cupcakes were very good.
I think I saw the $3000 sunglasses, if they were them I think they really cost 3000 yen, but I didn't ask to wear them.

well, a lot of people on the board, and particularly people who check in to this thread have been there to check out the Ronnie B, so it seemed like a good place to let people know about the contest.

if other people who havent been there or havent had someone bring them back a cupcake want to vote for their own reasons, im not gonna complain but i certainly dont expect everyone on the board to vote. any votes are appreciated of course! so thank you.

awesome cupcakes, best ever!

Mike and his brother John are really nice guys too; they went out of their way to help fill up my cooler so I could bring some Ronnie B's to the .Netters in a rainy Central Park.

Mike also let me wear his $3,000 sunglasses.

I took a Strawberry Short Cake Cupcake back to the hotel with me and as I was walking to my room I couldn't resisit and took a litle bite. It was so good I dropped it on the dirty wallway floor, but that didn't stop me from eating the rest of it.

Someone brought be back a Ron Benington, and I was worried it would be too sweet, but the dark chocolate ganache on top really helps that. If there were a coffee element though, that would be exactly what I'm looking for.

I fast forwarded through most of anything that wasn't Molly's. I was a bit disappointed when, in the beginning at Molly's, she mentioned having to have their best seller displayed well, but didn't give the name. I was also curious about something with the finals. What if NEITHER contestant finished in the allotted time?

Finally, I can stop recording these stupid shows.

Last night was the first time I sat through an entire episode since the first one. I just watch the first 5 minutes to see where the people are from, then hit delete when it's not Molly's. I almost hit delete on this week's show too quickly.

Yeah, PB, as soon as she was fawning over Molly's "best seller", I kept waiting for her to say the name of it too. Bummer.

And the shots of the store they showed weren't the best. They could have taken 30 seconds to pan around a bit and show off some of the features.

At least it ended with a W for Chicago and for Molly's. Congrats to Boom-boom and Mike (aka.

Interesting coincidence an Eileen Krebel was arrested in Chicago for prostitution in 2004.

http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2004-12-09/news/0412090161_1_liquor-license-la-opera-prostitution

Charged with prostitution and public indecency was Eileen Kerbel, 23, of the 1500 block of West Chicago Avenue, Chicago. Scott Mikros, 46, of the 10000 block of South Bell Avenue, Chicago, was charged with pimping (this sentence as published has been corrected in this text).

Maybe just using Boom Boom is a good idea to distance herself from this other Eileen Krebel from Chicago.

I think he was curious to know the show's reason. Were they afraid of being involved in litigation if someone had an Oreo Cupcake, Obama cake, or a BP cupcake that spills fudge when you bite into it.

They allow the contestants to hype their stores, so it does seem odd that they won't allow them to mention specific cupcakes.

Oops. It was a lot closer to 4 bucks but... even still....
I don't think 5 bucks is too much for a specialty item. These cupcakes have nothing in common with the cellophane wrapped cupcakes they sell at 7-11 next to the energy drinks.
To me, ONE dollar is too much to pay for a cupcake... if that cupcake sucks.

It's still a ton of ganache. When it comes to something as rich as ganache, for me, less is more.

It's more than a taste thing, it's a texture/balance thing.

I am the same way, but I'm telling you, it's not too much. It works perfectly. This is coming from someone who usually scrapes off the frosting from those cupcakes with the mounds of frosting.

How much was it for six?

$3.75 isn't that bad for quality cupcakes, but is it asking too much for some kind of a break for buying in larger quantities?

Had a mint chocolate one from them just a bit ago and it wasn't particularly good.
