This probably sounds like a stupid question, but does water go bad?
For example, if you leave a glass of water on your nightstand, would it still be good to drink a week later?
I poured water into my coffee maker last week and then realized I had no coffee. I then got coffee a week later (today), and poured water in forgetting there was already water in the machine. My lazy ass drank the weak coffee that came out (half fresh water, half old water), and I seem to be having some stomach distress.

I would say no its fine as long as it covered and nothing (dust, bugs etc) gets in it. But some bottled water bottles do have expiration dates on them.

Water wont go bad but airborne pathogens can and will get into the water and can cause all kinds of distress. Plus you dont know what was in the coffe maker that has been sitting there. So yes that could have been the cause of your stomach problems
Sorry

Pure water, covered, will not go bad. But a glass of water can catch dust, insect eggs, skin cells, errant feces, flesh-eating bacteria, the hantavirus, Britt Hume, and other harmless particles.
In your coffee maker, where there can theoretically be bacteria in the dried coffee smegma that coats the insides of the thing, the water sitting in there for a week can allow bacteria to flourish, but probably not to likely.

Bottles of water have expiration dates on them because the plastic will start to deteriorate after time and the plastic can be introduced into the water.
I don't like eating plastic.

Water itself cant go bad; its the stuff in the water that goes bad.
Water is the carrier, the Typhoid Mary of the woes of the world, and your coffee.
I blame Mr. Coffee.

Bacterial biofilms form on any wet surface. (http://www.exopol.com/in/base2.in.html)

Water can go bad, especially if it doesn't get proper supervision and a firm hand through adolescence.
Those can be trying times.

I heard some where that bottled water will go stale after (i think it was) 6 months. so water thats left out or uncovered, will probably get something that will make you feel sick.

Like Mike Teacher said. Water is a breeding ground for bacteria. There are shit loads of bacteria in a persons mouth all of the time. Once your lips touch the water and the water stands for a while....ooof.
I would run some vinegar through the coffee machine.

water does go bad.
even ro/di (reverse osmosis / de-ionized) gets funky after time. ro/di is so pure, you cant drink it.
i go through a 5 gal bucket a week (for my tank). i never let it sit more than a week.
