Just to echo my newest myspace friend

from dcrtv

JFK To Yank O&A - 1/17 - DCRTV hears that NYC morning radio duo Opie and Anthony (left) will be axed from WJFK-FM. Their last show on DC broadcast radio will be Friday, 1/18, when we'll hear about more changes to the JFK line-up come Monday 1/21. O&A aired tape-delayed in the 10 AM slot on the DC area's 106.7. O&A have lost about half-a-dozen major markets in the past few few months, including Philadelphia. Their show will still be heard on DC's XM Satellite Radio.....

That's surprising. I thought they would be able to stick with WJFK, because it's one of the only remaining successful "hot talk" format stations in the country. I guess it doesn't help that the show isn't broadcast live there. It sucks for O&A, but it might be good for the Hideout.

WJFK is to radio programming as Isiah Thomas is to coaching/being a GM.

O & A are going to be off Terrestrial when their contact is up ( I think its March ) so its not surprising that other stations are making changes.

I was thinking the same thing

They may move Big O & Dukes (aka O&A lite) to middays live and move Dubs and Jefe to the 7 pm slot, or maybe they bring R&F back to DC

And AJ the Junkies move to the Stern slot has worked out for JFK

True, but I was referring more to the lack of R&F and the overdose of Don and Mike and Junkies best ofs on the weekend. Not to mention the god-awful colon cleansing shows.

well apparently Don and Mike are done at the end of March as Don is done with Radio from everything i have read/heard. Don even says it himself

There is also fighting within the Don & Mike show as well...They went off the air midshow the other day...Don will be leaving this year, Mike wants more money, and Buzz is jockeying for position as well as Robb, and they may move to mornings. The Junkies to Afternoon Drive?, El Jefe and J-Dubs to evenings?

Cheers,

Mikey i think the Jefe and Dubs thing was more in favor of taking the local guys (both of whom were interns at WJFK and friends of the Junkies) when taking big O&Dukes over Jefe and Dubs, however jefe and dubs are back on WJFK

Also, the junkies will keep their time slot, they have been #1 actually in the last 2 monthly books in DC even beating out the brother stations

I saw this on DCRTV as well:

Rumblings: Post-Geronimo JFK Line-Up - 1/17 - The scuttlebutt about what CBS man talker WJFK-FM might sound like in a post-Geronimo era: The Junkies could get moved from morning drive to afternoon drive. "It pays better and no 4 AM wake-up call," we're told by a Fairfax station source. Big O and Dukes from evenings to middays. The return of El Jefe and J-Dubs to evenings. And maybe a Mike O'Meara-hosted show for mornings? Or something "new"? Goodbye Opie and Anthony and Jim Rome? Stay tuned.....

I don't think this ever happened. Big O and Dukes were doing a music show on HFS (99.1) and then went to lunch time on HFS (105.7), and then to Phoenix. The show that moved in when Jefe and Dubs auditions after florida was Unzipped with some broad and it didn't last 6 months. Then Big O & Dukes came back from Phoenix to the current slot 6 months ago or so.

Also, I know for a fact that Chad 'the stalker' Dukes worships O&A, above any other show except the Junks (they did give him his start...). And Big O & Dukes have super agent Bob Eatman as their agent.

First of all, I guess it's more the company than WJFK specifically, but when WHFS flipped, Big O & Dukes were given much more favorable positioning on weekends at WJFK at first, and then on the talk station in Baltimore. The Hideout were booted completely from the schedule and then eventually were given a shitty Sunday afternoon slot before bolting for Orlando.

Also, I believe the Hideout were auditioning for the WJFK slot that Big O & Dukes took over 6 months ago and didn't get it.

As an aside, before they remodeled the studio, O&A had a picture taped on the wall of Big O & Dukes standing in front of a WHFS sign while holding XM WOW stickers (this was before O&A were back on terrestrial). I think it was meant to be a little subversive on Big O & Dukes' part.

Well they did send in a tape to get the golden ticket to O&A so that should tell you something about them. However, at the virus comedy tour this past summer two of the junkies and O&Dukes did a show live from there, and Chad almost jizzed himself when he saw Norton. It was actually pretty good radio

I just don't ever remember (big o and dukes) them being on JFK on the weekends. The Junkies were the ones that got preferential treatment when HFS (99.1) flipped, but it was pretty obvious that they were holding in order to take the Stern slot when he left. Big O & Dukes auditioned for the 105.7 lunch slot, after Miles and Thrill left (remember them doing a crossover thing with R&f). And i'm not sure how 'favored' they were by CBS, their 105.7 show was Big O & Dukes, then Big O & Dukes with guest Ed Norton. Then Ed Norris with Big O & Dukes, and then Ed Norris, and Big O & Dukes were gone--showing up next in Phoenix.

I know the hideout got bumped back to weekends a couple of times, and that was an outright mistake on JFK's part.

Remember the political talk guy that was JFK on at 7 at one point. I don't even remember his name. Jay something....

When WHFS flipped, the Hideout were cancelled outright and Big O & Dukes got the Saturday night weekend slot on WJFK. This didn't go on for very long though because Big O & Dukes got the Baltimore gig.

I guess that makes sense.

Was that when they came back and did the Sunday afternoon shift? I remember listening to those, but they didn't last long then.

Were they still working at JFK without their show? The HFS flip was before R&F left, so JDubs would still have been producing, and Jefe would have still been running the dump, right?

I'm not trying to argue, i'm just trying to put it all together in my head.

Yeah, that's about right. Both still held their other roles at WJFK after the Hideout got dumped. The Hideout eventually came back with the Sunday show. I want to say that lasted less than a month before they left for Orlando.

For the sake of Jefe and Dubs, I really hope they get the night shift back on WJFK. Unfortunately, it won't really help me, though. I listen to my R&F recordings from 6-10 or so. I'd still miss the Hideout.

EDIT... I meant to post this HERE (http://ronfez.net/forums/showthread.php?t=66382&highlight=hideout).

I just keep hoping they get off of terrestrial radio altogether. When they started this, it was cool because the show was longer, but that is a lot of airtime to be funny in, and with all the lawyers, they have lost their edge.

We still had the old Saturday night slot for replays when we moved to 11p-1a mon-friday. When HFS flipped... Big O & Dukes were given our Saturday night replay slot first. Then O'Reilly was given our evening slot, and we were given the boot. We came back for a few Sunday afternoon shows later on and then the Hideout was cancelled completely until it moved to WTKS in Orlando. I think there was a week or two of Big O & Dukes in our replay slot before we did our last weekday show. At least that's how I remember it anyway.

I will say Chad Dukes did have one classic bit when he called Elliott's show pretending to be Lance Armstrong as DC101 had been promoting the Lance Armstrong call in. At the end of the call he just went off on Elliott it was classic
