Im somewhat of a hoarder and ive kept a lot of boxes from stuff I bought over the years (computers, stereos etc). I feel like if I ever needed to sell them off, I would be better off if I had the retail boxes.
I was looking to clean out my room today but I just cant bring myself to throw out my old boxes. How do I rationalize this? Is it worth it to keep the boxes or am I just fooling myself. I don't store anything in them, just the styrofoam. PLEASE HELP ORACLE! :surrender:

Any electronics you have had for a couple of years will be worth shit whether they are in the box or not. Save the box for a year if you need to ship back under warranty. Otherwise, just recycle them.

You know, you should make a fort out of them and then you can hide when people you don't want to deal with come knocking at your door. What? Is that not healthy?

You might as well throw those boxes all out. The boxes don't mean jack if you don't have the styrofoam packing that came with it so you can sell your old crap as "vintage" or "near mint". It's all about presentation.

If you plan on selling items on ebay than yes, boxed items bring more. If not recycle after it is 1 year old or warranty is up.

I actually keep the packing and the manuals,,, Theoretically I could just store some of the stuff in the boxes bc they dont get much use anyway. IM just afraid to lose the boxes
how would you go about recycling cardboard anyway?

If you're not near a recycling center, go to a grocery store and sneak them into their cardboard dumpster. They pretty much all have a dumpster that's just for cardboard.
And yes. I keep my boxes and manuals. I almost always get a good price for my old electronics on Ebay.

you said you're afraid to lose a box.
you do realize you're a maniac right?
and have you ever sold any of your "electronics" that you've saved the boxes for?
and you do realize unlike old collectibles, your electronics start to depreciate the second you buy them? it doesn't matter how many boxes/manuals you have for an old tv or computer, especially a computer, after a year it's not worth shit.
so just know this, you aren't saving those boxes for any real reason, you are simply a maniac.

I discovered, the hard way, the one box you may want to keep for a year is that of a LCD flatscreen tv. I bought one from a company that ryhmes with Tostco and discovered that when it went on the fritz about 10 months into being used that it had to be shipped to the manufacturer in LA for repair. And in order for the warranty to be valid it had to be shipped in a company approved box. Like the one I had recycled about a week after putting the tv on my wall. I had to pay twenty bucks for the company to send me an approved box, wait for it to arrive, then pack the tv and send it off. I did not have a tv for over a month. I actually had to break down and rent one while I waited. Lesson learned about purchasing good deals via the internet.
