Let me say this, if Chris was attempting to antagonize with carefully chosen wordplay, it certainly was not the right way to announce a "unity" party. If he was responding to things that were already being said about him, though...

The "significant other" comment that I was referring to was posted on the boards prior to the on-air call. When presenting the party to others, that "significant other" line was dropped after no instigation.

As I said to Matty, I don't think it would be right to give you or anyone a hard time for not going to an event.

1. We all have people who dislike us at any events, even if it was the Big Ass Bash, RonFez.net Xmas Party, or The Unity Party. This party will be no different despite the "name" of it. The only few who are disecting the title are those that needed a reason to shit on it for one reason or the other, which is there deal and acceptable in my eyes. People feel the way they feel, i'm not trying to change opinions. Not 1 of my posts or replies was ever geared to try and change anyone's opinions on why or why not they want to or not come to this party. Nor was it to be any different then one of those above said parties. The name sparked off some drama thats all. A party is a party. As an avid listener of R&F I signed up for this message board to see some pictures of events and such-

I am not a person who cares to post (hypocritical as I may be right now)

I just wanted to add my 2cents- all this message board shit- to the people who don't post- is ruining the show-

From the outside, it seems like everyone is fighting for their 15 minutes, over and over

realize that many of us who do not post or don't do much more than listen everyday noon -3
find it to be a vulgar display of arrogance to vent personal shit onto the air, as if the listening audience as a whole is interested which in turn takes away from the "show" it does not add to it-

You may disagree because of your involvement with the messageboard but you may not have heard an outside perspective in quite some time

I think its amazing that people can get so connected to a radio show that built-up perceptions/misconceptions between listeners can lead not only to an on-air meeting between the listeners, moderated by the radio hosts, but also that the show itself would compel a host of the other main show on the channel (Ant) to call in and let people have it.

I think the chief reason that this is a problem (and also the chief reason both O+A and R+F have lasted so long in the industry) has nothing to do with either the boards or the internet, but with the fact that so many of the fans happen to live relatively close enough to each other that they can hang out often. The ease of personal contact between many of the fans breeds friendships, love, enemies, and hate. I don’t think it’s the technology or even the name of the “unity” party that is at the core of this conflict, but instead the basic nature of people. Some people want to identify themselves as a part of a group and others like being an individual, not associated with any group. Some people are easily offended, and others aren’t. Some people want to say or write whatever they wish while others believe there are reasonable limits that should be imposed. Mix all of those kind of people together and place them in relatively close geographical quarters and give them a common interest (R+F), and there will be occasional conflicts. Introduce the internet, and those conflicts that would already occur can happen more easily and often.

If the nasty things that have been said or written between fans were done between people who rarely had the chance to meet because they were so far apart, there wouldn't be so much time and so many feelings invested in these battles. If someone writes something about me or about something I wrote on the internet, its part of a separate world to me that I can ignore, but if it’s written by someone I know that I will see or talk to again, I would probably respond.

For those fans (and hosts, for that matter) who are personally invested in this conflict, it must be really hard to find a resolution because its so hard to divide “the show” from “the real world” because so much of one has been merged into the other.

I would hope that everyone could just be adults, calm down, apologize even they were not at fault, and move on. It’s not a new concept-how many people who have significant others or family apologize for things they didn’t do in order to get along and move on? Then again, some people really do enjoy these types of battles and, whether they will admit it or not, whether they consciously know it or not, would rather fight than get along because they enjoy it. Maybe it’s hard for someone to apologize because they know that they will see that person again and be reminded of that act, so they fight on.

In the end it’s not about who was right and wrong in what they said about some other person, or about some celestial scoreboard where one person is clearly better than someone else. It’s just about getting along. No war, civil rights, or other grand cause it at stake here-just hurt feelings. If I were in the shoes of some of the people in this fight, yeah, I might behave the same way they have. I would hope, though, that at some point, I would consider how I was letting this affect me and tell myself to ‘grow the hell up’, laugh at myself, and move on. :smile:

I love when two opposing politicians get together to announce they're gonna be working together... They always like to play dress up. If its a bipartisan announcement the republican will wear a blue tie and red for the democrat. Like their audience is children and they need a gimmick to get their attention.

In this case it's so contrived they chose blue for unity but the way is looks is that Hillary is just an extension of Obama's tie. It's a subtle show of who's in control.
