All joking aside Casey and Dave; there is a lady by the name of Priscilla Dunstan who claims to have figured out five words for babies 0-3 months. These word or sounds are as follows: "I`m hungry" The word Neh, " I need a burp" The word Eh, "Im tired" The word Owh, "Im uncomfortable" The word Heh, and finally "I have gas" The word Eaire. Apparently these words actually do work and would be a great asset to any parent, in helping them understand what their baby is trying to communicate. Check out this lady on the web for yourselves. Best of luck and may God bless you`s with a healthy baby.

you can also use sign language.
my son knew how to sign "help" and "hungry" before he could say it.
kids brains are like sponges. i'll show sean something, or say something to him, and boom! he's like a parrot with it.

This is why sign language is used to communicate with the severly autistic. Visual cues are such a basic for of communcaiton that even though with communication challenges can master it.

make sure you get a car seat that goes up to 100# and is a 3 way seat.
this will cover the "reverse", "forward", and booster seat stages.

oh, and this advice i give to all expecting first time parents that i meet.
no matter how bad things get, how little sleep you get, how much the baby may (or may not cry), how out of energy you may feel, millions (annnnnnnnnnnnnnnd millions) of other parents have gone through it and come out ok. you will, too.

im in a sentimental mood right now.
casey, dave- take as many pics and as much video as you can.
every day, they learn something new and grow up just a little bit more.
enjoy every breath, every heartbeat, every laugh, every cry, and every smile that you can.
they grow up faster than you think.

haha, these are pretty funny!
but, on a serious note, never yell or fight near the baby. i mean, it does something to hear yelling and such. and as you get older, it just fucks you up even more. if you have to do it in the street, so be it, but try not to do it in front of your child.

I looked up that crib that someone got for Dave and Casey. It looks like a very nice crib. I only have one concern. I think it may be a good idea for someone to volunteer to help Dave assemble it. I foresee "extra pieces", if Dave does it by himself.

take alot of video. as they grow older it's hard to remember them in their very early stages. video captures so much more than pictures

Here's what every post partum woman should have in their medicine cabinet before getting home (especially with a vaginal birth)...it will make the post partum experience much better.
Motrin
LOTS of pads
Dermoplast Spray
Tucks Medicated Pads
And if you're breast-feeding, Lansinoh Nipple cream (Yes, I know...useless without pics, yadda, yadda, yadda.)
Hugs! You're gonna be fine.

If either Dave or Casey can stand living with your mother-in-law for a month, do it. They are a great help that first 4 weeks of your baby's life. Newborns need a lot of attention and Casey will need time to recover, so if you can handle your mother-in-law they will take some of those diaper changes and late night or daytime feedings off your hands. Grandma's are great.

I have to agree with Topless Mike, I didnt get any sleep with my first child. I felt bad for my wife because she brest fed the baby and there was nothing for me to do, so when she was done, I let her sleep and stayed up almost all night with the baby. The thing that got me through the night was the show Cops and the Soprano's because it seemed that they were always on late night. Some days I worked on no sleep but I thought it was important that my wife and baby got as much rest as they could. In the mornings, I would change him and read to him, it was great morning boost for me.
And Mike is right, take as many pictures and video as you can, i have a whole shelf of video tapes and he is only 4..You blink and its gone. Once Juliana is in born, time will fly like it has never flown before. When she is two and you come home from work, and she runs into your arms and says daddy, the stress in the world will go away.
Its a great ride Dave and Casey, you guys will be fine. You have a great support system with your family and also the Ron and Fez family here.
Topless_mike's post get me all sentimental too, thanks Mike!!

Make sure you change the baby's diaper BEFORE you go out. That way you won't have to do it again, till you get back home.

can I add: underwear you don't care about throwing away so you don't have to wear that horrible hospital "nettting undergarment device" which is one size stretches for all!

Sure you can, I believe it's called an oxitocin drip. That and the little hook thingy to break the water should get the ball rolling.
