My chick and I will be spending our annual golf week in Palm Desert, CA then heading down to San Diego for a day or 2 of fishing. Any recommedations of good food or must see touristy jibberish that we should take in in either of these areas??

Fish tacos are the San Diego specialty.
When in San Dawg, visit the Gaslamp Quarter (http://www.gaslamp.org/).

Definitely the gaslamp, anything along the coast is nice, like Mission Beach or La Jolla. Coronado is also nice if you want to drop some coin.

I was just there last week. There are bars and restaurants every 20' or so. One standout was an Irish pub called The Field. Had some nice Guinness stew and a Blacksmith (Guinness & Smithwicks) Also ate at Fleming's Steakhouse which was good but pricey (like Ruth Chris pricey)

If you like to do the gay touristy thing you could also go to Balboa Park which is where they have the San Diego zoo. It's got a bunch of places besides the zoo there. I checked out their exhibit showcasing all the torture instruments used during the Spanish Inquisition. That alone made it worthwhile.

SD:
My fave place is Ocean Beach. Hodad's for burgers. Bunch of antique shops, coffeehouses and a good used record (as in vinyl) store.

Hodad's (http://www.roadfood.com/Reviews/Overview.aspx?RefID=390) is a must, and it just slipped my mind. Thanks for the reminder. I'd have been furious to have missed going there. I saw it on something like "Diners Drive-In's and Dives" on Food Network, and I guess I never realized how close to San Diego is was.
Those milk shakes look fantastic. Thanks again for everyone's suggestions.

Hello Oracle, I'm going to San Diego with my wife and two sons in January. We're going to visit the zoo, Sea World and Legoland. I just found out that it will also be restaurant week when we are in town.
Can you give me any tips, suggestions, or scoop on anything else I should check out while I'm there? Thanks.

If you are there during restaurant week, Yelp will be your best friend.

Coronado is really nice, especially the Hotel Del Coronado if you can handle spending a good bit of money. Legoland is a little over an hour north of San Diego.

I just went there in August & didnt do much. The best burgers on the planet are at a lace called Crazy Burger, I dunno where it is but do some research. They had the most amazing recipes for burgers and everyone I had was great.
Theres a nude beach in La Jolla medical marijuana. Enjoy.

As far as sights to see, I highly recommend Balboa Park it is amazing. As far as food, look up a great Mexican restaurant we found called Tio Carlos. Also, be sure to check out the Little Italy section and the restaurants over in the Gaslamp district.
Have fun!

I was trying to think of the name of that place. Thats the one with all the museums & shit in it right? That place is awsome, i would go back cuz i didnt get to see everything.
There are also some great beer bars down the street from Crazy Burger, 30 somethings beers on tap. But being with your kids and all I dunno how that would work. Abandon your family life & live free.

Yeah that's Balboa Park. There's also an air and space museum that is pretty amazing. It has the Lunar Module from the Apollo missions among other things.
Also, don't forget to check out the San Diego Zoo, however that is more of an all day kind of thing but it is really worth it.
I haven't been too Crazy Burger, but I will definitely check it out next time we're there.

If you like beer, I HIGHLY recommend the Stone Brewery and Stone World Bistro.
Stone World Bistro (http://www.stoneworldbistro.com/)
Stone Brewing Company (http://www.stonebrew.com)
Stone, in my opinion, makes some of the best beers in the world, and the food at the restaurant is excellent. The grounds are laid out in really nice gardens, with fountains and firepits to eat and drink around, with plants and trees designed to block out the nearby highways. (It's right off of I-15 and Rt 78, so it's also easy to get to.) And of course, you can do the obligatory brewery tour. The place is fantastic.
In Gaslamp, there is a terrific Persian restaurant that I ate in a few years ago. It was my first time eating Persian, and it wasn't intimidating at all. I don't remember the name, unfortunately. I'd skip Fleming's- it's good, but it's a chain; you can find it anywhere.
I love the Wild Animal Park, too, but with only a day or two, you may not have time for that. You could easily kill a whole day there.

The Salton Sea is just down the road from Palm Springs.

Missing out on it would be missing out on history, especially since some think it wont be around for much longer.

That place looks freaking disgusting. I can smell the disease and dirt from here.
If you go to San Diego wave to the harbor seals for me.
