That a new Rock station was launched in NYC today?

CD 101.9 has become 101.9 RXP. First song was the Velvet Underground.

I guess, but I don't think I've turned on FM radio since Ron & Fez's K-Rock hostile takeover, and I don't see this bringing me back.

what format?

what format?

It's some weird mix of AAA-rock, Classic Hits, and New stuff. It's like AOR but twisted. They are playing shit you don't hear on the radio, but "cheap sunglasses" is on right now. It's like a few unfamiliar songs, then stuff you know.

It's pretty funny. I went for a carwash around July 4th weekend. As always, I unscrewed my antenna before going in. 7 months later, it's still in the trunk.

I still listen to WFAN. I turned it on to check it out.

Besides, I still remember the ultra-cool Miles Davis commercial from back in the day. He scared me.

That's one question I've always had. What was the point of that? At the time it seemed like it could lead to an afternoon slot. It was just a chance for K-rock to get Ron and Fez fans hopes up. What the f?

Wow, a lot of people still listen to WFAN, anymore. I stopped listening when Steve from Bayside became a regular caller.

Anyway, for the people who don't listen to satellite, I'm glad there is a new alternative.
How's WDHA doing these days? That used to be my station of choice.

I listen to WFAN in the mornings because Boomer and Carton is better than the heavy spot load the O&A live show has. Besides, B&C are a fresher alternative to O&A. I still listen to O&A on the way home, but I like B&C more and more I listen to them.

I couldn't get over how black he was. It totally warped me. I thought he was a fucking alien.

I remember seeing that commercial while watching Miami Vice.

I didn't have a lot of exposure to black people back then.

It is a cbs station also.

Let the speculation begin.

How many times an hour do they play Nirvana, Green Day or Beastie Boys? New K-Rock, how I hate you...

I was wondering what was happening this morning on my way in to work. CD 101.9 is one of my presets and when I hit the button I thought I hit the 104.3 button. Wow. No more cool jazz.

I actually listened to cd 101.9 every now and then. I even won a contest that the station hosted when Dr. J and Kareem were playing a one-on-one game down in Atlantic City in the late 80's. Got me two tickets to the contest, a signed ball by each, a signed promotional poster and a watch.

And did you then put on an ELO eight track and turn on the lava lamp?

It is a cbs station also.

Let the speculation begin.

Last summer/spring CBS in DC flipped a classic rock station to "The Globe" which sounds a lot like this format. I'm not sure how successful it's been - it's not a bad alternative when I hit a patch of no XM signal (curses to you, Braddock Road in Alexandria!).

What???? No more Sade 101.9? Never really heard jazz on there anyway. It was all Al Jaraeu, George Benson, and Kenny G. Good riddance! At least WBGO Newark is still on 88.3 for Jazz. (that is as long as your important listener membership dollars keep coming in! Too many fund drives.)

I didn't even know about this format change until I read one of those free newpapers on the subway today. CD101.9 smooth Jazz has changed to 101.9FM - The New York Rock Experience as of February 5th. They are going fo ra non-corporate, local leaning feel I guess. First song they played was Velvet Underground's "Rock and Roll". Interested to see where this goes, especially since K-Rock is such a mess...

i've had it on over the last few days, and the mix doesn't totally suck

they played some of the same old crap, but they played live lou reed this morning; the new raidohead and r.e.m and some other decent tracks ... so then they played the really old and tired crap, it didn't seem so painful
