We've been saying that since Nixon went to China. They will be in power as long as we import goods from Hong Kong. One of the smartest things China did was annex Hong Kong, but then leave it alone. The money they get from it keeps the communist regime dominating and oppressing the rest of China in power, and not only makes it an economic powerhouse, in a few more years they will start poking at India to see if it's willing to be pushed around or not.
Make no mistake, China is a bad place, and it isn't going away anytime soon. What to do about it is not my expertise. Isolation is not possible, that would bankrupt us, and that is our own damn fault. War is out of the question, we'd get our asses kicked with the troop levels we have to sustain in the Middle East.
I guess we are going to have to take a wait and see attitude, and just respond to whatever move they want to make. They can hit the West Coast with ICBMs, so I'm guessing they will wait until they have their targeting perfected to be able to hit us anywhere. Or maybe they won't do anything at all, and just wait for us to implode economically. They are very patient and methodical, and have been around longer then any of us, and will probably be around a lot longer after we're gone.
