12 Angry Men

I watched that last week. What a great movie!!! 99% of the movie takes place in 1 small room and the acting is great.

Dr. Strangelove.

I never liked that movie. maybe because i was forced to watch it and write a report on it in jr high.

Citizen Cane was a perfect movie, gone with the wind on the waterfront, etc a lot of the old movies were perfect.

My current favorite are Remember the titans. It has everything I love, football, race relations that work out, a true story, denzel one of my favorite actors and so much more.

An a great underrated movie "Beautiful Girl" stars a lot of great actors from the late 80's early 90's

Point of Order Mr. Chairman...

What defines the perfect movie?

The only reference I have from the show was when they discussed perfect albums. The perfect album didn't have a single bad cut, not one filler song, the rest could be epic, but one song takes it out of contention. So, for me, a single scene/character that really sucks and it's not perfect.

Bruce Willis' whiny girlfriend was the perfect example. Pulp Fiction is awesome, but those scenes suck. Fuck your blueberry pancakes and remember the fucking watch. Maybe it was meant to annoy. It worked.

Thats setting the bar high. A lot of movies I love but then I gotta be honest and say ;Well, that one person is miscast' or 'Wow great but that backstory was so un-needed' or whatever.

I was going to say Shawshank. The acting is phenomenal and I watch it every damned time it is on TV.

I would also say Animal House. It's the one every ensemble comedy flick like this was based on.

Do I have to just pick one?
Can I pick one favorite for each genre?

Damn, it's still really hard to narrow it down.

WIZARD OF OZ is up there. You dig it as a child... then you see it when you're an adult and appreciate it on a whole other level.
WATERSHIP DOWN is another one that works on two levels. Sooo damn good.

REQUIEM FOR A DREAM really affected me. It doesn't look or feel like any other movie. It felt REAL to me. Perfection indeed.

Doing the usual "in-out" of the car during the show today (imo Clockwork Orange disqualifies cuz it loses some steam in the 3rd act), i don't know who the 2 gents were that came in during the perfect-movies segment;

Still, great timing; i almost tuned out of what seemed to turning into YET ANOTHER Coen Bros-Tarintino-Scorcese etc dittohead segment; it was nice to hear the gang challenged with movies that are luved for other reasons.

My $0.02; the films that influenced the great 70's American auteurs; Antonioni's "L'aventurra" , Renais's "Hiroshima Mon Amour", Godard's "Weekend" and the many post-ww2 influenced noir flics starring JL Belmondo

I've said it once, and I'll say it again, but Casablanca is a perfect film. There's not one bad character, there's not one bad/mismatched actor, and not one bad scene. It's the perfect mix of romance, suspense, and comedy.

As discussed on the show, what are your perfect movies. I nominate "The Apartment". I love that movie.

My peronal favorite is another Billy Wilder film - "Sunset Blvd." - the first movie narated by a dead guy. Funny, dark, cynical, it's maybe one of the first "black comedies." It's hard to pick up on the fact that the humor is intendend (the opening scene she's burying a monkey!); William Holden, Gloria Swanson and Erich von Stroheim rocked it.

http://www.cnn.com/interactive/entertainment/0203/wilder.films/sunset.boulevard.jpg

[[Hey! Enabler and I can be Sunset Blvd buddies!]]

Trivia - for anyone who loved Twin Peaks, you need to see Sunset Blvd. Not only are there obvious allusions to the movie, including lines of diaglog, but there are really cool sublte ones - my favorite being David Lynch himself, whose character on Peaks, Agent Gordon Cole, is the same name of a person mentioned, but never seen, in Sunset Blvd. - during the scene with Cecil B. Demille...

See, for me it almost has to be broken down by genre. Perfect in a horror film is different from perfect in a Romantic Comedy. That being said here are some of my picks below. I'm sure I could think of more categories, but this is what came to mind first.

Perfect Horror Film-Poltergeist
Perfect Romantic Comedy-Moonstruck
Perfect Overall film if I had to pick-A tie between The Godfather part 1 and Fight Club
Perfect Sequel-Godfather 2
Perfect Trilogy-Lord of the Rings. I'd pick Star Wars but unfortunately the 2nd round of trilogy almost ruins it for me.
