If somebody gets in your face and calls you a cocksucker, I want you to be nice. Ask him to walk. Be nice. If he won't walk, walk him. But be nice. If you can't walk him, one of the others will help you, and you'll both be nice. I want you to remember that it's a job. It's nothing personal.

I manged nightclubs for 12 years and thats exactly what I would tell my security. The only thing I can add is pay attention. You arent there to drink, meet girls or fuck around.

Barback & bartender yes, bouncer no. Drive a limo, same hrs, less aggravation and potential lawsuits. Tigger was a bouncer.
Good luck with your new gig.

Make friends with any blind steel guitar players you may come across. It won't keep you safe or anything, but "Long Tall Sally" can be the highlight of every work night. It also poses a nice target for bottle throwers and will let you identify the riff-raff from afar.
I'll stop now, so that you may have a chance to get an actual response to your question.

I bounced down the jersey shore for a couple of years at a club in Seaside Heights. If your in a local bar you will most likely have minor stuff to deal with. We had to put up with all the shirtless guido's who wanted to impress everyone. Just like some other people have said, remember that its a job. pay attention to whats going on and if you work with other bouncers, be aware of what they are doing. If you have to break up a fight, do just that break it up, don't jump in and start pounding people. Good luck, sometimes it is more of a hassle than its worth.

Be aware of the skirts in front ploy. I get called in to my place every once in awhile for busy weekends. Dont take shit but dont be a dick, people respect that a lot more and like it was said before dont be afraid to call the cops.

actually, never call the cops. In Nj everytime the cops get called your local police and abc keep track. Eventually you will get fines, and when something bad does happen they will have a record and reason to try and get your license suspended. The only one to make the decision to call the cops is the manager (or owner of he is there). The only exception is if the manager is the one who is getting his ass kicked.

My friend has bounced and he learned this pressure point below your ear and above where your jaw hinges and he can basically use his thumb to bring anyone to their knees very easily. If you press this area on yourself, you will see what I mean. He will walk up to someone who he wants to leave the bar and walk the guy out while pressing it and supporting the guys head with the other hand.

i'd bounce in morristown every st patricks day.
the best thing to do is to have a plan in case something actually happens, you'd be shocked how many people just assume they'll know what to do when some mexicans start clubbing each other with pool cues........

This is very true! Also if you have to call cops, there's a good chance that they'll be circling the place like sharks all night (or nights) after your call. You'll never be rid of them.
Or worse; they'll literally wait and park outside, across from your customers' cars at closing time. That always makes it so easy to clear a bar at the end of a night!...F'ing zombies!

You only made $100??
Dude....youre getting jipped.
My advice....dont take shit from everyone. Be nice, but when you tell them to do something...make sure you let them know youre only giving them ONE warning. If they dont listen, 86 their ass out the door.
Be careful man and good luck.
