i didn't realize the tax rebate you get this year is just money I won't get back when i do my next years taxes. i get about $10k back this year...so will only get $8500 if things stay the same next year($10,000-$1500 rebate i get in May). I don't need an advance. I was going to spend it, but now i'm just going to make a few bucks on it and keep it in my bank account. so i guess it helps those who owe money each year, as they won't need to pay back the rebate amount. kind of sucks. i don't see a quick fix to the market right now and won't the lower tax refunds next year just mean less spending then?
It's all one big political grandstanding circle jerk. It means nothing and lets everyone say that they did something.

So you've worked for the government then?

If you're getting back 10K in taxes you should be more concerned with the money your lending to the government at no interest than some small rebate check.

unless you want to lend me $400K, I kind of have to pay interest on my mortgage...which helps get me a large rebate.

Adjust your withholding...if you took the 10k you were getting from the government at the end of the year and instead paid it to your mortgage company throughout the year. You'd be knocking out that mortgage with amazing speed.

its not that simple though. sure it would get rid of my mortgage quicker, but you have kids and they are pretty expensive these days. That money I get in a return is used to help pay for activities and events that occur during the year. If I got it paid to me throughout the year it would come and go as fast. I take it in one lump sum and spread it out as things come up. I make decent money, but I'm not living with a big surplus of cash where I can afford to chip my mortgage away that fast or I would have paid more upfront and lowered my monthly bill. thats why the thought of an extra $1500 was nice...there is one or two bills I wouldn't have to care about as much this year.

.....when our recession is fighting commies (http://www.worldtribune.com/worldtribune/WTARC/2008/ea_china_02_15.asp) all by itself!!
China watchers are predicting a drop in the GNP growth rate this year and for the foreseeable future. Most are attributing the expected fall off this year — from last year’s official 11.4 percent, the fifth year in a row of double digit expansion — to the expected downturn in the U.S. and the world economy in general.
