Another campus tragedy, this time at Northern Illinois State.
Virginia Tech, Columbine, etc.

Reviewing the list confirmed a question I've had for a long time: why do most of these occur in the places they do, specifically lots in midwest, south, west, but very few like where I live, New York City and the rest of the Northeast?
I don't recall ever hearing some kid open fire in some high school cafeteria on Long Island or on the campus of Columbia University or Bowdoin College for that matter.
Is it stricter gun laws? Better school security? Happier students?
Yes, Bard College is an outlier in the list, liberal artsy college in MA. But that kid was a fan of the band Sick of it All and not Dar Williams, which maybe explains a lot.
Discuss.
