Having seen Bobby many, many times; most recently in St. Petersburg a couple of months ago, I can say YES----he is not appreciated as much as he should be. Granted I only saw him twice when Jerry was alive but I have seen THE DEAD a few times and Ratdog at least 20 times. He almost was not a member of the Grateful Dead but once he joined up, it was for the better. I think Bob Weir is without question, THE BEST RHYTHM GUITAR PLAYER ever!!!!

But Bob? Even if you never spent time with him, it is hard to believe you would mistake his passion for genius. I love Bob, but I can name at least two members of my immeadiate family with more musical genius, or at least ability. I am forever grateful for Bob's contributions to the band, as well as the other musicians he shared the stage with, but to single him out from innovative and creative artists like Hart, Mydland, and Lesh is foolish. The Dead encouraged every member of the band to contribute to their sound, and while Bob added classics like LLR and did his best to ape Marty Robbins, he wasn't pushing them forward. I realize most people don't appreciate the Dead or even respect their impact on music, but the one thing critics can't argue is the talent the members of the band possessed. The last person from that band that should be exhalted or used as an example of how special they were is Bob Weir.

But as far as musically. His Dead rhythms were intricate and often in the background so they werent very well appreciated. This said as soon as Brent joined the band he really went to shit, cause Brent started asserting himself more and then Bob turned into Bobstar and just annoyed the hell out of people including me.

And as for Ratdog . . . . ew. I mean what the fuck man? He goes into jams that are totally fcking irrelevant and sound just lost. Garcia wouldnt allow that sort of bullshit. Phil's band is better in terms of that, but the only reason that the Dead were able to jam like they did and not have it fall apart was Garcia. Even a nodding out Garcia would hold shit together better than Bobstar.

OK, the way he randomly stops and stares at the Asian kid eating ice cream is beyond creepy.

I also love how the band supposedly has two people playing guiatr, yet you can only hear the synth. The rhythm section also sounds totally processed, too.
