He was in two great bands ....
His solo stuff rocks too ...
Even kicks ass live all by himself ...
and .... "Mould took a brief break from the music world to get involved with another passion of his, professional wrestling, when he joined WCW as a scriptwriter for a brief period. Creative differences with some of the other writers of the league led to Mould leaving the company and returning to music. When he released the album Modulate in 2002, he thanked some of the wrestlers he associated with, most notably Kevin Nash and Kevin Sullivan, in the album's liner notes."
Bob Mould, a real "Renaissance Man" .....

Happy-gay, bodybuilding Bob is a little disconcerting. Kind of like when David stopped being all fucked up on Six Feet Under.
That said, the dude has made, by my count, 7 stone-cold classic albums. Respect.

He also played guitar on the Hedwig and the Angry Inch movie soundtrack.

I was GM of a college station when Warehouse: Songs and Stories came out; that got played so much we replaced it twice.
'Could you be the one?' was a kinda-sorta hit for the band, they could be seen on MTV. Yes, that MTV.

No posting of the Husker Du game yet??
That commercials gotta be on YouTube

One day 'Divide and Conquer' will be the show opening and I'll be happy.
He also used to fuck The Magnetic Fields guy, why cant gay men have ass babies so we can have rediculously good new bands.

husker du & sugar are flat out amazing ... 'makes no sense' and 'good idea' are all time favorites
his biggest contribution to pop culture is 'dog on fire' the daily show theme

the song he openly regreted writing due to the show's bigotry and homophobia in it's humor (pre-John Stewart)?
and I'm a huge Mould fan. Was just recently listening to Zen Arcade on my iPod

well yes, but i think Stewart has made up for Kilborne's asshole-itude.
Just heard a cut off of Mould's new album, very nice

It's sad Bob and Grant will likely never be able to tolerate each other enough to back together for a new tour. With 80's and 90's indie stalwarts like Dinosaur, jr., Misson of Burma, The Pixies and the JaMC getting back together and kicking ass live, i makes me wish I could see the Du.
An man, as much as I love HD's albm, they DESPERATELY need to be re-mastered. Tragic victims of crappy 80's production...very thin and quiet.

I'm not a purist at all, but I like them the way they are- I feel like the rawness serves the period in indie rock/post punk whatever. I know you could remaster them in that spirit, but why fuck with it now. It's a snap shot of that band and that time working with those resources.

I don't see anything "raw" about albums being too damn quiet. It's not like I want the music changed at its basic level...I'd just like to hear it where the rhythm section isn't barely audible and the trebble sounds cranked to 11.

This clip will never stop being a total headfuck:
You're telling me! Husker Du were my absolute favorite band circa 86-88. I remember staying up that night, with the anticipation of finally seeing them on live national television - this was as the height of the Reagan years when, with the exception of "IRS: the Cutting Edge," underground music (or "college rock" , if you must) was invisible on the tube.
I think Joan was really struggling at that point. It was one of the first shows on the then-fledgling FOX network. When Joan left, she was replaced by a young, but still insufferable Arsenio Hall. You can hear in the clip the loud, oddly hyperbolic crowd response to the band - that was definitely carried over into the Arsenio version of the show. Whenever my buddies and I watched the tape I'd made of that interview, we'd crack up over the crowd's insane response when she introduced the members of the band. We also marvelled that they had enough clout to reconstruct the album cover art as a stage set for a band that never got within spitting distance of Billboard's Hot 100.
About a week after the performance, Husker Du hit Portland and played a blazing set consisting of the Warehouse album in its entirity. That was the first rock show I ever saw in a place without seats -- I was 15. Within a year, they were no more.

Another fun fact - I read in an interview a while back that Bob gave away all his flying V guitars

Love Bob Mould. I saw Husker Du in 1987 on their Warehouse tour and was a little disappointed he didn't talk to the audience. It was as if he was doing a show because he HAD to and later on I learned of tensions in the band.
My first experience with Sugar was when my best friend Alice and I went to see a taping of Conan O'Brien during one of his first shows. They played Copper Blue as the audience filed in and got comfortable. Alice and I were both like, "This is one of the best albums I've ever heard!"
Was Bob Mould ever part owner of Maxwell's in Hoboken? I remember when I attended Fordham there was this really awesome musician my friends knew who had a busboy job there and Bob Mould had apparently taken under his wing. This was the late 80s so I'm not sure if this is true. The kid had a band and a single that was pretty popular (The sleeve was a black and white pic of a cat with a bulls-eye pattern on his fur). I'm pretty sure his name was Ed. I always wondered what happened to him.
Oh there goes the old lady with her silly talk.

I've loved almost everything Bob's ever done. In the mid-80's, Husker Du was my Who as the 'mats were my Stones. Sugar was a great power-pop band, and even the quieter solo albums, particularly Workbook, were fantastic.
I got to interview him a few years ago ('98 or so), and he was a great subject to chat with. We talked about his entire career, and he was completely open about everything including the huskers breakup.
Although they still hate each other, I did get to witness a mini-reunion three (?) years ago at a benefit for Soul Asylum's bass player. What a thrill to see Bob and Grant on stage again.

You got to see the reunion in the Twin Cities?
I am officially jealous.

I got introduced to Husker Du when Zen Arcade came out. "Chartered Trips" is still my favorite song from that album. I saw them in '86, when I think they were making a bid for a bigger label. A much harder, aggressive band was opening for them: Soul Asylum.
I had "Celebrated Summer" on tape for years, from a radio mix, thinking it was pretty much the greatest song--then I finally got the album, New Day Rising.
Workbook is incredible. Black Sheets of Rain is all good but has a rockin' one that I love
"Sacrifice/Let There Be Peace".

Went to this show last night - excellent! his band rocked.
New album (not bad) + solo stuff ('Hanging Tree') and lots of Sugar ('See a Little Light') + choice Husker Du ('I Apologize / Celebrated Summer') ....
It was happy talkative Bob - he actually smiled a few times!
Go see him if he comes to your town!
