I started to listen to music late (1988 or so) but I'd have to say WPLJ and 104.3.....I'm 22 now.

WABC AM (770) and WPLJ. Yes,
it's true. 'PLJ used to be
THE FM rock station. Back
when Carol Miller was hot.

WABC was my favorite, followed by WNBC, both on AM, both played music. WPLJ a little later, when they rocked.

WNEW when it kind of did it's own thing playing whatever they wanted, then WPIX started playing all new wave and punk music in the mid to late 70's. Before that, WABC on my cheesy transistor radio with a stupid ear plug that kept falling out of my ear everytime I moved my head.

I know there was a station on AM radio I used to listen to but I can't for the life of me remember which one. First station I recall listening to was 95.5 WPLJ
I still listen to it occasionally if there's nothing good on either K-Rock or WNEW

99X was great. WPLJ back in the day was a great classic rock station.

WLIR in the late 70's/early 80's was great, they went from playing Marshall Tucker and the Dead one day right into the Ramones and Haircut 100.

Its sad how piss poor the quality of music stations in NYC have become. I only listen to WFUV, 90.7 because its the only place that will play Elvis Costello and other genius acts.

...and why is it that I can only find good Ozzy and other rock acts on stations in Philly, NJ and CT?

What the hell has become of NY radio?

God, I feel old.

Okay, am I the biggest dork
here??

I used to listen to WFAN
660 obsessively all through
middle and high school.

Also I went through a 3 year
stint listening to Z100 in the
mornings (Z morning zoo
with Ross & Gary!) in high
school as well as 102.7
and 92.3 when they were
rock stations.

Also, in the car on the way
to school in the morning it
was usually WQXR
(classical music) and on
the way home it was WCBS
(oldies). both thanks to
mom. but she's always
right!

I was right. I AM the biggest
dork.

First radio station I ever followed besides 770 AM for the Devils game was......you guessed it 102.7. My dad used to listen to it when I was a kid because it was classic rock, I just got ropped into it.

IT'S TIME TO PLAY THE GAME-AHHH!

Long Island in the 70's & early 80's and hating disco!! meant either 92.7 WLIR or PLJ but there was one more in 82 to 83-- 103.5 was WAPP, and the first summer the APPLE was around they played great Rock n' Roll & ZERO commercials, and then when the summer was over the station was pretty much over too! I remember one DJ's name and I'll never forget it...Garth Hemp!! For whatever reason, name just sticks in my brain.

Hooray, We can say "Stuff your Ass" now! Damn, now I'm starving!

i listened to 92.3 k-rock when it was classic rock, and of course I listened to, "the rock of new york", home of the world's largest rock and roll library, the greatest rock station EVER, 102.7 WNEW.

it still bothers me, i love the format now, but why couldn't they have replaced some adult contemporary station? why did they have to replace a broadcasting legend? *cries on tie died shirt*
