We all know Ron is a comedy God, but does anyone else get a little irritated when he casually dismisses anything mainstream or popular?

Just a bit (?) or is Ron really that much of a cultural snob?

I don't think this is an anti-show post. Just a conversation starter.

I've heard him talk about his love of being a sports fan, including the Daytona 500, he likes some reality t.v. and likes looking at sexy chickssss what isn't mainstream about those things.
What is it that you like that he dissed?
Look back at his old Ron & Ron stuff full of wrestling T&A and creepy chimp farms. I think he's looking to expand his horizans and craps on other stuff to get a reaction which you prove he did.

This board is 30,000+ members strong so I would assume that the general population is not a little irritated.

And I am in no position to judge Mr. Ron Bennington.

If Ron was too cool for the room, would the cigars be worth having dinner with the Zman?

Not really. A pretty hefty percentage of mainstream popular culture is shit.

I dont think disdain for that which is mundane, hackneyed and overdone (most of what passes for pop culture/mainstream) is arrogance.

I find i agree with ron on most of his views.

Although, when they differ, i must obey fez.

Ron is a cultural snob, but he'd probably say the same thing anyway.

He doesn't like a lot of the popular programming, music or movies because he thinks they are shit. And they are, for the most part.

But he does like reality shows, so that's a little weird.

When I first started listening to the show I thought the same thing, it didn't annoy me, but it was there. As time has gone on I've started to "Pepper Hick's" a lot of the movies Ron likes (where I live we got TWBB like 2 weeks ago, its the only way I can see anything out of the mainstream) and I've come around, I've seen some of the best movies of my life lately and then I'll catch something popular and mainstream and its just a flaming turd. This evolution was happening anyway to a small degree, in that I was starting to notice the predictability and constant unrealistic happy ending nature of every movie I saw. Mr. B the movie snob has shown me an alternative I didn't even know existed.

I appreciate most of you for not killing me on this one. I expected to really get my ass torn to pieces. I'm a huge fan of the show, and although I don't have many posts on this site, I do visit it often. The job I have unfortunately doesn't allow me much time to delve into massageboards ect. as much as I'd like too and rarely do I have time to really post anything, much less read other people's. But this page is on my favorites.

I think that part of what makes this show great is that it encourages healthy debate. Before I signed up for this site I heard TERRIBLE things about it ( one-sided, nasty to noobs etc. ) maybe that was true once but apparently no more.

When they wrote the constitution of the US, there were a few who didnt agree with what others agreed with. Some might call the agreeable types followers, and those that dreamed up improved ideas helped to forge the document we have today. Everything had to be brought to debate, and I am sure that in their day, the desenters (sic?) were probably considerd "too cool for the room." Yet many agree that what was forged made us all better. You may not agree with what is said, but it is there to bring about balance.

That is how I view Ron. He may not run with everything I agree with, yet listening to him I find myself entertained and apt to look at another point of view. Just cause he doesnt agree with things that others may or may not like does that make him "too cool for the room??" Nahhhh. It just means he has a different perspective. As the great minds that created MST3K stated "...just repeat to yourself it's just a show. I should really just relax."

I only get irritated when Ron talks about disliking something he hasn't seen, based on his assumptions, when it's something I think is good. The two examples that jump to mind are comics- which Ron will run down unless Brian K Vaughn is in studio (granted fezzie probably doesn't read the better comics) and Newsradio, which was a great tv show that Ron put out as a hack sitcom.

Ron and Dave sortof get into their 'we're counterculture' modes on some seriously mainstream stuff, and that gets annoying, but probabyl because Dave will sound so obviously pleased with himself for being into something like Pavement, or the sex pistols, or johnny thunders.

Also, the seed thread wasn't and 'anti show' thread at all.

If culture was beef, one could say that Ron prefers Wagyu to ground chuck.

What's the tatseiest part of an onion? The center.. You only get to it by peeling back the layers, and that's what Ronnie does. He blasts through the bullshit to get to the core of a topic. The outer layers are where most of our Cunt-tree gets caught up.. And good or bad Ron exposes the basics of an idea.. So let the BOB & Sam aka the BS show talk about Celine Dions yeast infection, I want thoughtful insight and a different perspective on the world.. That's what Ron, Fez and to a lesser extent Dave deliver on a daily basis..

Ron hates Hanna Montana.

Not only do I hate that little bucked tooth lip syncer, but every time I hear her name it reminds me how much I disliked all of her father's mainstream stuff.... "Achybreaky" lick my balls.

Although, I will give Billy Ray his due, he did have some great songs, but for some reason the populous would much rather listen to crap, so the good stuff never got any commercial airplay.

As much respect as I would have given him years ago, the fact that he rocked the mullet for over 20 years, and unloaded a batch responsible for Hanna Montana pisses me off so much that if I ever see Billy Ray Cyrus on the street I'm gonna kick his ass, and cut off his balls so he can't spawn any more untalented she monsters.

True, if you consider "too cool for the room" to be a potential definition for Ron. I would prefer the sentence, "Is Ron too cool for the room?"

meh or you could not be a mindless fuck and like what you like an view what ron says as his opinion people like different things.

dont get me wrong tho he is fuckin hilarious, and i thoroughly enjoy the show.

just think that chimps who sit there and nod and assume what someone says is right because they are a charismatic personality.

Anyone who uses the word film as much as Ron must be a cultural snob. I wish he would say movie once in a while for us common folk.
